I would find much delight in re-living Half-Life using the Source engine, before moving up to Half-Life 2. It's not THAT big of a deal though, since I have beat the original numerous times.

I agree. Being a programmer myself, I have discovered from experience that starting code from scratch always produces a better product. You have already got the logic part thought through, churned out some code that does everything well, but being human, we make errors. Code is rarely perfect...
