The game looks soooo good - and the new features such as swimming and so forth sounds really cool.
The grove pic especially looks very authentic.
Can't wait to get this for my ps2 (btw pc version usually ships 6 months after the ps2 version - so i'm getting it right away....can't wait that...
true - pak files are essentially just .zip files - there's nothing to it :)
Btw i found a funny spoiler going through the sound files - there's actually a cpu/computer in-game that sounds exactly like something from star trek....hell it even has the name Trekkie :P hats off for that id
i distinctly remember an article by Robert duffy on this subject.....go look through his blogs.
I'm not entirely sure that un-compressed textures/dif. and spec. maps are the only differences.
Edited:
Damn you abom :)
I found it too...
Only thing thats added in ultra quality is un-compressed textures and added polygons (smoothed surfaces due to AA possibly).
So far thats what i've noticed.
To my knowledge it has something to do with the weapon configs - some can be set to gib 0/1 0 = for non-gibbable 1 = for gibbable.

Entirely up to the person playing the game - personal preferences aside i had atleast as much fun with hl as i did with D3....playing it the 2nd time around now :P
Lets be honest here, ppl who were let down, surely was expecting something on par with hl - ppl you can't just assume that iD...
That was a joke btw :P
"2 hours into the game, I was like this is the "best game ever created!". An hour later after that, the game became the same thing over and over again. "
'scuse me but that statement could be said about any game - Even HL  - just change the "2 hours" to "4 hours"
A new marathon, not likely - though it would be so very cool if there were one.
If you've played Halo you can see many similarities with it and the marathon series - for example look at the old rocket launcher from marathon and the one in halo ;)
Post your Doom3 easter eggs here.
I can't take credit for this one, but i found it pretty goddamn hilarious :D
You valve fanboys are gonna love this one ;)

Yeah you're right, now that you mention it - there were a few more in the latter part of the game....completely forgot that, but still its a demon you kinda always think about when the word "doom" is mentioned.....the imp got way more screentime :) than the pinky :(
Sod off!
If you don't like it here, stay in the HL forum - if you haven't noticed it says General Gaming/doom3 here mate.
Definitly the Cacodemon, talk about the most useless non-scary monster in the whole game....such waste.
I'm not really pissed about the things in the game, it was a really enjoyable experience and i'm already on my 2nd run through the game. - like lanthanide mentioned there was some monsters, that after they're initial presentation just seemed to disappear from the game O.o?
I thought that was...
Did anyone other than me really want to see ALOT more of the station - i know lots of ppl just wanna run and gun - but i really wanted to look at what other thing there were in mars city....such as habitats/living quarters.
Also did anyone else just insanely want to have an intro sorta like...
As mentioned, i think it all comes down to gameplay - its just not in D3's favor to introduce large expansive areas....hell the originals where "corridor crawlers", why would you want to change that when its a remake?
The engine is clearly capable of rendering levels as larger or larger than...
