I would go for an ATI 9700 Pro. I believe Valve is optimizing HL2 first and foremost for the ATI cards. So that would probably be your best bet.

I would wait until HL2 comes out before upgrading prices will drop more by then.

Why the hell would they leave out the Grav Gun? That would make no sense. Valve already have a functional grav gun for the game as shown in the demos so there is no reason to leave it out. The only possible reason Valve would leave it out is if they couldn't get it to work properly which...

I wouldn't be surprised if a game like this requires at least 2 to 4 gigs of hard drive space (maybe more). After all, its the most advanced game ever made.

Not to worry, it seems that Valve is a wholly self-owned company, perhaps owned entirely by Gabe Newell. Meaning that Sierra only publishes Valve games, it doesn't own Valve. MS would have no ownership of Valve or even publishing rights of Valve games if it buys Sierra (thank God).

Good theory by Mullinator, but one reason they may not be Russian: I don't see why they would be wearing gas masks in that screenshot. There isn't any gas in the air because the civilians are not wearing masks.
