From what I've seen online, the "not optimum mode" means the for some reason the monitor is not set to its optimum resolution or refresh rate. Try using the monitors recommended settings if you haven't done so already.
This problem also may have something to do with your graphics card...
Hats. Hats everywhere as far as the eye can see. I think this will be a positive step forward for rewarding the community map makers. This also might be an extra incentive (other than being able to advertise your name everywhere on the map) for new map makers to go ahead and publish their own maps.
Well the TF2 beta was mainly used for testing without the risk of breaking the actual games. Maybe the developers didn't see a big gain from using the beta anymore. RIP
