Yeah, like I said, this was sent days ago, shortly after Phisionary suggested sending Valve the collage on page 10 of the thread. Looks like the first time you posted was on the 11th page. No worries though, it's the thought that counts, and I'm sure Valve appreciated it :D

I compiled all the 'gold avatars' from everyone that posted in this thread within the first 24 hours after HL2 went gold, and sent it to Gabe. He forwarded it around the office and everyone there appreciated our enthusiasm :D

Technically, you do get HL2 earlier :D I love Steam and the fact that I don't have to drive a half-hour to the store, wait in line, come home, and wait 30-40 mins to install. My installation's done and chances are that I'll be playing at 12:01am that day.

It's somewhat foolish to wait until release to buy over Steam, because if you do right now, you get to enjoy CS:S in the meantime. CS:S is great because it gives you something to do rather than agonize over the fact that there's a month left to wait.

Awesome. You can save the page to your computer as "Web Page, HTML only" and then set it as your desktop pic, and it updates automatically.

Yeah that is strange, I've been checking half-life2.com and steampowered for hours and it still says Preload 6 at the top. I'd like to know the whole story behind the press release, and when the guys at Valve first heard that VU announced it was gold. Ah well, at least it's official now...
Not sure on that, but it is possible. I know a lot of stragglers would still pay 100 for Gold. Glad I bought mine on Steam already, though :D

So... it's become apparent that I'll never get to the end of this thread, so I'm just posting now. I started reading it when it was about six pages long (10 mins after the press release) and now it's 18+ pages. But what's even more important is that it's

Obviously your framerates are going to depend on your proc and RAM just as much as your vid card. As long as you've got a fairly high-end proc and 512m-1gig of RAM, you'll be able to run Doom 3 and Far Cry at really high settings and get a smooth framerate regardless of your choice (9800pro or...
