    Manipulator

I think my favorite part of the video was where the combine was on the other side of the buggy as gordon, so he whips out the manipulator and blasts the buggy, smashing the combine. It was just so unexpected and clever. I wanted to see the combine by the tire swing get wacked upside the head...

Better lightning in the new build?

See the other lighting thread: Yes. Think about this: There are two lights in a room, and two people with two shadows each. Where the shadows do not intersect, there will be a light shadow because one of the lights is still hitting that area. Where the shadows intersect, the combined shadow...

    The shadows problem still exists???

As long as the wall is a worldbrush, there won't be a problem. The shadows only bleed through models/characters.

Better lightning in the new build?

There's two major lighting types in HL2, like Apos was describing above. Lightmaps are used as ambient world lighting, and to represent general light from the sky/sun/moon. They are static and calculated when the map is compiled. Dynamic models make use of lightmaps by sampling the worldbrush...

Is HDR implemented in the new vids?

Hard to tell from High-quality too, because the compression makes colors bleed so much it's like a fake HDR effect. Can't tell if it's just normal overbright stuff we see in most games, or if it's really HDR.

    The shadows problem still exists???

You're right, new renderer, but retained parts of the Q3 engine: http://archive.gamespy.com/e32002/pc/carmack/

    The shadows problem still exists???

Yes. Think about this: There are two lights in a room, and two people with two shadows each. Where the shadows do not intersect, there will be a light shadow because one of the lights is still hitting that area. Where the shadows intersect, the combined shadow will be darker because zero...

    E3 2004 HL2 Demonstration

Could be, but if they had two seperate CS projects going, don't you think Gabe would be pretty clear on what names they call them by now? I just don't find it very likely that Valve has managed to build HL2SP, port all the mods they own to source, AND develop a totally new MP game. And why...

    E3 2004 HL2 Demonstration

He is, that's the point. If CS2 wasn't the same thing as CS-Source, he would've said "No, this is not CS2". He said 'we're not CALLING it CS2', clearly implying that it's the same thing, they've just chosen CS-Source as the name for it, instead of CS2.

    E3 2004 HL2 Demonstration

From the Eurogamer article: "When quizzed, he said that the game would not be a free update, but would in fact be released commercially via retail and for download via Steam at the same time as Half-Life 2, at the end of this summer." So, CS-Source is 1) not going to be a free update to CS1...

    E3 2004 HL2 Demonstration

Counter Strike 2 has already been shown Gabe: "We're not calling it counter-strike 2" It's pretty obvious that what has been previously referred to as CS2 is actually CS-Source. I'm sorry this is going to be difficult for a lot of people to accept.

    E3 2004 HL2 Demonstration

Well I'm guessing purchase of HL2+MP includes the Source-ports with it. It doesn't make much sense otherwise, if they had an original MP game in progress we would've heard SOMETHING about it by now. You're right, there's a lot that's not very clear, but it just seems pretty unlikely that Valve...

    Half-Life Reloaded

Pfft. Uh, if you haven't noticed, HL1 still costs money. You can still buy it on store shelves. Why would it suddenly be free to everyone? Nobody has said anything about WHO has to pay for it. Remember when Steam started, and all you needed was an HL1 CD key to get Op4? Remember...

    E3 2004 HL2 Demonstration

Where are you people getting this "CS is not HL2 Multiplayer" stuff? Is that just wishful thinking? Just because CS-Source will be sold seperately doesn't make it not part of HL2 multiplayer. HL2 singleplayer will be sold seperately, so why not a multiplayer-only box too? Believe it or not...

    What's wrong with gamespot??

Geez, enough with the Valve-hate Gamespot, it's getting old. "Medium-hot"? What? Did he just cop out of saying 'luke-warm'? They're gonna look pretty stupid if HL2 takes best of show again.

    LMao: the Eli scene

That was hilarious, I laughed. I can't remember the last time I genuinely laughed at a joke in a video game,

Valve proves they have good AI

The rollermine/combine section made me think the gamespot guys had no idea what they were doing if they thought the action was 'standard fare'. Of course, it was their first time playing it, so it's excusable. That whole battle was so incredible, and so unique. I'm craving HL2 CTF...

    The shadows problem still exists???

So? The Doom3 engine was built off the Quake3 engine. Why would they just start over when they already have so much 3D engine code that works just fine?

HALF LIFE 2 FULL DEMO video from both BOOTHS

Holy Flerking Snit - Just watched the 664mb movie... my mouth was literally watering. These are BETTER than last year's... Unbelievable. I'm not even going to comment on them, because the whole movie is one big spoiler. Just... wow. /me wipes drool off chin.
