Yum!
Just pointing out the little things to keep in mind...when people are excited about getting to play the game 20 minutes before people get home from buying it at midnight, having to wait several hours could be torture. It would be best to start dealing with these things now! ;)
Well, the reason Steam wasn't mentioned is because the press release was from Vivendi. Vivendi is only interested in the retail release of the game. Now, we've been told in the past that Steam versions will be unlocked on the same day that the game becomes available in retail.
The thing I...
Eh, I'm happy with HL2 and I think you'll find that most people have been waiting for HL2 for the full 6 years, even if it was only officially announced a year and a half ago.
I'm guessing you're correct. As the average age of gamers rises, it will be interesting to see if the depth and maturity of the writing in game magazines starts to rise also.
I'm guessing that every single reporter/reviewer at those other magazines (even EW) has a degree from a reputable journalism school. PC Gamer on the other hand probably has it's fair share of the same, but a lot of writers there could have just had a history in game design, or worked their way...
Fair enough...thanks for the clarification! I don't think he was necessarily being disrespectful to Gabe in that post you replied to rather than just giving a somewhat off color example of a different possible headline. I agree that he could have had a better headline! :E
Just another 2 cents here. November 26 was rumored to be a very possible date. Those rumors were later discovered to be false, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it happened to come out the first week of December (just a week after those rumors stated).
As for the next year option...
Correct, both polls are annoying, speculative topics, IMO. But at least that other poll has options that make sense in regards to what the poll is about. That poll gives you a feel for what people are actually thinking in regards to when the game will go gold. Your poll options tell people...
Hmmm, a question asking when HL2 will be released...and actual dates for options is as stupid as a tongue-twister and a quote from a 1970s sitcom.
Call me crazy, but I don't quite get how that makes any sense...For some reason I don't see you lasting very long around here!
Ditto...
How about options that actually tell us something:
Early November (1-10)
Later in November
December
Next Year
If you're gonna do a poll, it helps if you can actually give options that tell people something!
What the hell does this add to the conversation??? There's really no need for you to be an ass for absolutely no reason here!
I think that Spitcodfry made a good point there. The first reviews of HL2 are big news. PCGamer stands to sell a lot more issues due to the fact that they have one...
Good argument...oh wait, no it's not! I have a 9700 Pro which is 2 years old and it needs "TWO" power connectors also, as do all high end cards from either company for the last couple years. My last two cards have been ATI, but it's looking like NVidia is just the best bang for the buck right...
Well done on the math there, but you could have just added up ther percentages themselves you know... ;)
Not to be a smart ass of course, just trying to make your life easier in the future!
I'm in the same boat...I was gonna go for the collector's edition for the DVD, the book and HL:S, but when I found out the book wasn't the full "Raising the Bar" book and that DoD:S doesn't come with it, I can hardly see where the extra $30 value over the regular edition is.
I'm probably...
Being that vivendi is creating the retail boxes and the whole purpose of Steam is to bypass retail distribution and physical boxes, I think it's pretty much guaranteed that there will be no game cds/dvds delivered with the other Steam goodies.
All of the benefits of Steam distribution would...
But really, you bought the video card expecting to get HL2 only. I definitely think they'll be giving CS:S to voucher holders also. but HL:S and DoD:S would really be above and beyond what is necessary. Keep in mind that this stuff was free with the card. Sure it was the major selling point...
Hmmm, thanks for that link...hadn't seen that before.
That definitely diminishes the value of the retail collector's edition to me...of the $30 difference, the only things of value to me are the DVD format and HL:S. I doubt I would ever wear the shirt and the book doesn't sound like it's...
That is the thing that seems a little odd about this anouncement. All the online retailers are saying that the collector's edition comes with the prima behind the scenes book, which makes a lot more sense than some book sampler for the extra $30 over the regular edition price.
