Oh yeah.. when you DO get it working remember to jump regularly when you're on lifts going up and to try to avoid walking on things bobbing up and down. (there's a bit in Opp Forces where I had to noclip in order to avoid getting stuck).
Later revisions of how the HL engine worked made some...
I think you're having a funny five minutes to be honest. :)
IIRC Gabe has gone on record as saying if you want a wooden table to break up into its components you need to indicate where the breaks to those components are.
My best guess about how this works is that the break point is set...
As far as the supporting structure question, what REALLY matters is not the number of break points (although obviously they're key) but whether or not the mass and breaking properties of the materials work as they should (which is why the 'material' element of map creation gave me a hard on when...
Well that's true. There's a lot to be said for creating interesting architecture (and I think that's what Tim was getting at) but if you work in the construction industry (as I do) then you quickly realise that the vast majority of buildings don't realy have cnifty touches, the aesthetic has...
Lol, yeah I think we're all just having a bit of fun (unlike Tycho who seems quite unremittently bitter about the whole thing TBH, although I guess that's what he does).
Back on topic - is there a release date set for the 3.8 drivers? I'm having some slight difficulty with 3.7 and RTCW:ET.
Heh. Just allow me to say -

Seperated at birth? I think so. ;)
Personally I like the D3 look, it's in keeping with what you expect really and looks fine, I just don't think Tycho can handle the fact that all the...
Yes, we're a few years off modelling these things perfectly. Although technically there is a great range of software that will tell you how a bit of steel or something will deform when enough presure is put on it it tends to be a specialised sort of program for engineering buildings etc (which...
Yeah I think the biggest problem here is not that they haven't apologised (I don't really think it would help much) but some sort of communication outside of an email saying bluntly 'It's delayed' would be nice.
Even a statement that said 'We've hit a few serious bugs late in the playtesting...
I'm annoyed and yes they grossly mishandled things in my opinion but I will naturally still be buying the game the day it comes out.
I'll take anything they say to me with a pinch of salt here though so it's affected my opinion of Valve themselves.
I'll forgive all if HL2 is as good a game...
Lol!
I want to believe!
Aah well, just a little while longer I'm sure. Of course, I've been saying that about DNF for a while now too. ;)
My only real complaint here is that the announcement has been royally ****ed up by Valve on this one, they dropped the ball quite badly. Doh. Live...
That's not strictly true. The standard ARB2 path if used for both cards shows the Ati significantly faster, if you do what most people will do and run the nVidia cards under their own code path (which JC has coded) you get the FX5900 outperforming the 9800. There's a minor tradeoff in terms of...
The DM owns hard, we already know this because the quakecon demo was so fabulous... Blasting someone back through a window with the lights flashing around really does have to be seen to be believed.
Unfortunately you can't really get an impression of just how awesome the game looks from...
The problem is simply shutting down the program doesn't log you out, even after a reboot (you'd think it would work but it doesn't) so you need to actually select logout, close steam and restart.. Presto, things should be working.
