Mild disgust, annoyance, or disapproval...I'm pretty sure it is this, as the word seems very appropriate for the scientist character - its sort of a joke indicating his only slight annoyance at having his work disrupted by a 30 ft. machine ;)
Only fault I can find with Chris_D's copy is the last word of Kleiner...'fie' not fine ;)...what got that one. Its one of those olde english words used to express mild disgust, annoyance, or disapproval, which is amusingly in character - Valve's script writers seem to be doing a good job, which...
Personally, I can live with the splash effects. They aren't too bad in themselves, but I wish they caused larger after-effects in terms of ripples. I took a couple of snaps from the tech demo. It shows that the initial splash is composed of the same sort of animation, but is good enough to have...
Personally, I'd rather wait for the actual game itself. That feeling of being back with Gordon as the cinematic-style credits fade in at the start of the game, savouring every new second of graphical glory...Benchmarking tools will be made available I believe, and thanks to Valve and the...
How novel! I wonder if Halflife2.net's own Chris_D & compadres were primarily responsible for this unprecedented release? Nice one guys, chances are we all owe you for this one :)
Personally, I'm not quite as worried about that. Yeah, it may be a bit of a cliche if it goes down that road - but if the storyline is good enough (which it will be), I think its really going get you involved, and I don't think this area has been used enough to become a true cliche in the world...
I noticed that this thread [not posted by me] had the right subject area, just replied hoping to get some help from the experts who had already replied.
Apologies for extending an off topic thread...thanks for the comments guys, its difficult for me to go higher end of the graphics market at the moment. I'll see if I can stretch to a 9700, I'm just looking for a card with staying power that's not gonna be obsolete in a year.
Cheers again for...
Ok, seeing as this is an appropriate thread I might as well ask a seperate question here. I'm a student [on a severe budget!] and looking at buying a new computer [almost entirely for HL2 ;) ]. I've seen a model at one of the sites I visit thats got good specs all round, what I'm looking for at...
I think manufacturers should embrace DVD technology now, CDs are on their way out in terms of data storage levels. The drives are extremely cheap now and come with nearly all new computers, so I wouldn't have thought that software companies would be limiting their audience too much. Atari (or...
I'd like to help. I might be new to these boards, but I've long been a devotee to the Half Life cause. I'm a UK student with what I would like to consider a reasonable grip on the english language, and enjoy writing articles for subjects I enjoy. I have HTML knowledge, not too much more than...
Space is something that no-body has mentioned in terms of the next generation of technology. Scientific research programs are exploring the possibilities all the time, we've got quite a few probes all headed to Mars right now. In future, science suggests that it may be possible to sustain life...
Definately agree that the music is cool, soundscapes are pretty new but really add to the experience. Anyone ever play Homeworld (pretty old now, published by Sierra)? That was one of the first to use soundscapes and if HL2 manages to be as effective as that its going to be brilliant. I don't...
Problem with such advanced physics systems is that I suppose the critics of violence in games are going to have a ball when they see how realistically you're gonna be able to shoot/maim/generally injure organisms in a whole new way ;)
btw...thanks to Murray_H, those cubes rock! sweet demo...
They certainly aren't quite human, although they must be doing something right...I heard Remedy just subscribed to the cause now to use the technology in Max Payne 2 - all in all I'd rather have the ragdolls than canned death....plus it would be incredibly difficult to orchestrate the...
Re: Ragdoll Physics
hehe...those stuntmen...yes, the system definately has pros and cons. I haven't made up my mind whether to give it a stamp of approval or not, but the point of the video you examine does indeed highlight very weird movement, but thats only to be expected I suppose: think...
Hey all,
Pretty new here myself but I haven't seen much about the Havok system which as far as I know powers the famous 'ragdoll physics' behind the AI combine soldiers. This isn't strictly HL2 related but it gives you a good look at how the bodies react (as there were only a few brief clips in...
