Double check all of your processes, something might be shitting the bed, and make sure that you have all of your drivers up to date.

If you run steam from a new hard drive, it'll say nothing is installed, then it'll take a minute for it to find all the files it needs, it won't actually re-download anything.

IMO the fans are fine, you've got good flow past the HDDs and the bottom of the GPU, with plenty of fresh air moving through the case.

I don't believe candle wax is conductive, but I may be wrong. I'd say take the keyboard out, put it on an oven rack upside down and bake it on very low heat for a while.
