My rig looks too be the first Athlon in the results:
XP2600+ 512mb 2700DDR 9800np (clocked to pro speeds) Asus A7N8X
36.452 (Gfx 5.340 CPU 5.742)
very pleased with that and the money I saved on the non pro over the pro. Can't see where the extra £100 would have gone. I'd like to see...
I'd recommend an Athlon XP 2600 and an Asus AN78X Deluxe. Cheap, fast and feature packed. don't waste your money on expensive pentiums. Its the graphics card that makes the difference
I second that. If your rich enough to throw money away, then throw it my direction. Or let us share it between us. With the money you'd save with a 9800non pro you could buy a 5.1 surround system and another 512mb ram.
have you read the thread in the HL2 discussion group about the new 5.0 Nvida driver. Its performance comes from internal lowering the detail e.g midmapping etc. Its shocking and very visable. I too was a Nvidia user until last week, they made great cards. They just don't now
i'm sorry but if your looking for a card for maya work, then get the ATI. As a company they are far more geared up for the purpose. Only the ATI will give you pre render real time HDR lighting effects.
Just spend the time reading the recent reports that were linked for you. If want the real answer i dare you to go into the main HL2 discussion and ask the same question. Even Nvidia users will tell you. We've had people in tears on this forum (virtual ones) because they've just shelled out on a...
why?????? bury your head in the sand why don't you. In DirectX 9 they are 50% slower than an ATI 9800pro. A ATI 9600pro for £100 is faster than a FX5900pro 256Mb....please believe me
have you bothered to take any advice people are trying to give you. Read those links given to you for gods sake. This isn't an ATI fan site just people who are really trying to help. The FX Range is redundant, finished, capput, passed away, kicked the bucket......it is a dead chip. That is...
My theory is that the game starts with gordon waking up in a facility in city 17 with alyx and kleiner. He has memory loss and you then spend the game being drip fed the info. This would allow for any training and the aquirement of the HEV
been playing with them keys since the days of Marathon on my old Mac. To late to change now, muscle memory now automatically press the right buttons now. right control for duck, 0 on number pad for reload, scroll wheel change weapon up/down, scroll button jump, enter for action
sorted, too...
the stories pretty good, best for awhile, at least it has one. I agree stories with mars in have been done to death but its just a location not really a mojor story point. The levels there are fantasic though, great graphics and lighting. The assault level is staggering, it put MOH to shame.
find something that looks good to you. Note the name or part number. Put them in a search engine and read. Then do the same with alternatives. spend time to do this with every part you consider. sounds a chore but is worth it in the end. that way you won't end up with an Nvidia type problem
tip1:
plug everything in, turn it on and pray.
tip2:
if you want any proper advice we need to know the basics from you like what CPU do you want to use?
Good game, come back and tell people if you like it. Needs more support. Some of the levels look and feel like Halflife and even HL2 dare I say it (from what i've seen).
