For me, with an upgrade of motherboard, processor, etc. (Granted, both packages had Asus, AMD), No format was necessary. I guess if you have the time it's safer to format, though.
With overclocking, there is always the possibility for disaster, otherwise everyone would do it. Depending on the brand, you may not get a whole lot out of it, heat spreader or not. Without any manufacturer name, I guess the only way to tell is to try.
You have Windows XP, it seems, so just boot off the CD (which IS a boot disk) and install XP, it'll format for you. You WILL have to reinstall EVERYTHING, but in the end even performance will be better.
I get 5300+ with a 2400+ and a Radeon 9800 pro. Basically, in these tests, the faster the video card, the better your test score will be. An FX5600, while a decent card, isn't on the level of the 9700+ crowd.
This means no manual, no CD, no retail box, just the card itself. I buy CPU's and things this way, but I went with the retail 9800 pro because I had the money and you get a 3 year manufacturer warranty with it vs. none with OEM besides what the store gives.
That don't sound right at all, my ti4400 with a 1.3ghz Athlon and 256 MB PC133 memory, among other things, gets ~7500. Congratulations on the 9800 pro, though, I made the same upgrade and it rules :).
No, no no, going from a ti4400 to the 9800 pro, the shadows don't look near as good. So that benchmark should be thrown out, or at least have an asterisk next to it, IMO. NVidia is still in ok shape (wait until the Cat3.8's :)) overall, though. The FX5900 is turning into a good value.
