Well the problem is with just downloading these files is the fact that I'm on dialup, and to do so would be horribly painful. :-( If in I DO download it through steam, will it offer me up some way to simply record these files onto cds to act as install cds?

Well I just set the -preload command line in my installation, and that does that everytime I load now. It seems to be performing better than before, but still gives a BIG hiccup at the beginning of the level that lasts a few seconds, then continues on as normal, engaging in small hiccups here...

I'm sure there are exceptions all over the place, just don't see em.

hmm, well i have 512 pc300 ram. I've been planning on getting another stick at some point when I get the money, but i didn't know if that would really affect the time or not.

Is there anything I could do to try and improve loading time? I'm on an athlon 2800+ (2.1 processor) on an Abit motherboard. Is there anything I could tweak in HL2 settings or elsewhere to improve the loading times? I'm waiting five minutes between each level these days, such is why I thirst...

I dunno what the prob is, the game seriously runs smooth as anything when it's not stuttering, and I have 512 mb of pc300 ram. Though I should probly try the game on another pc to see how it compares.
