I admit it sucks in alot of ways that valve is gonna lose out on alot of potential profits because of the leak. But seriously.. the damage is done, what is re-coding going to do? Maybe delay the ease of creating cheats for a while. Changing the code isn't going to make any of their secrets...

I ordered the 9600XT coz I figured this.. it cost about $220, HL2 will be about $50 and I get it bundled for free, and I can still get about $60 for my old card... so basically I'm getting a new videocard and HL2 for $110. :) WOO HOO!

True.. I'm actually pretty sure Steam will be able to handle it. When the first official version was released it was probably simply a test to see how many servers they need and how it will handle. Plus those servers are simply for HL1. I'm sure they have a whole set of fast servers lined-up...

I'm sure there will be an equal balance of both... or most likely more aliens/monsters... simply coz they're more interesting. Only time will tell. Personally, I look forward to the suprise.

Actually, all these theories are good.. so overall it is basically a combination of all of them. 1.) They'd make more money on a holiday release. 2.) Steam issues and upgrades 3.) Nvidia drivers 4.) Pleasing the publisher 5.) HL2 needs more time for tweaking and multiple language versions.
