CS is updating at 128 BITS/S. That's right, BITS!
HL is updating at 50 BITS/S!!
I think I can run this over two dildos and a piece of string and get faster results.
Steam is always downloading something. If it actually had the BANDWIDTH too.
Steam needs ALOT more work. and ALOT more bandwidth.
9months beta my arse.
Faster. You don't have to download everything from the start.
But for some reason, it doesn't convert it all the time. I've installed it twice (started clean each time). The first time, everything worked fine. Second time it won't convert, so I have to download everything.
And look at...
I'd like to see some bechnmarks of mid range systems at lower res. Seeing that I only have a 15inch monitor, I play at 800 * 600. Now, I'm pretty sure my system (1.4ghz t-bird, 256mb, GF4 ti 4200) will handle it at that res, but still, I'd like to know what frames I can expect.

Becuase my steam file reads: userdata_240.vdf
But my real SteamID is 1781.
I did the same thing. I used the leaked install first time. Got rid of it just in case. Started with a clean slate in everything and used one of the 'official' installers. And it didn't ask me to convert anything. :\
I can't verify just yet, as I'm reinstalling HL + steam etc. But I did get it up and running this arvo and my 'proper' (doing it my way) steamID was 1781.
This way for sure gives the correct value...we just need to verify if the way listed at the start of the post gives the same one. I should...
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you are all checking it the wrong way.
This is the way to check it:
Join a server (CS, DoD, whatever)
Bring down the console (hit the ~ key)
Type in "status"
Next to your name, you'll see "Steam_0_0: XXXXXX"
Or something close to that. The XXXXX is...
