Well, I would be inclined to agree under most circumstances, this is HL2 we are talking about. I think if pple got the cracked version of CS:S to work so quickly, it will be just as fast (if not faster) before we see a fully working cracked version of HL2 available through warez. Just my...
Hmm.. I have not been able to play hl or op4 without steam activated. I can go to my old sierra dir, but if I try to run the games it starts up steam. Now maybe this is because I'm on cable, and I'm "online" all the time, but I have never seen an "offline" mode for steam.
Edit: I can turn...
As an aside, I read this in the interview posted by Fisker_Q
Doug Lombardi - We've met with folks in Hollywood to discuss the idea of an HL movie. But around the time we hear, "And then Gordon falls in love..." we usually head back to Seattle screaming.
ROFL!
Well information like this is rarely welcomed with open (read: gullible) arms by the gaming community, this would... um.. what's the word? Rock.
;)
Synnsykt, love the avatar! Death to the Pixies! (I was at the last tour they did with U2, many moons ago.)
Yes Hectic Glenn you are correct; a steam validation has to take place regardless of whether you get retail or steam versions of the software. Sorry I forgot to add that in.
I really do wonder how so many people are playing cs:s online without actually having purchased it. I've been on a few times and heard pple bragging about it. I hope they do get squished by valve.
I've never played Halo, and I don't really care if I ever do. WoW, meh. Evercrank2, meh. I've never really been into monthly fees for a game, except WWII online (which is different, but fun). I waited years for Doom 3, and I was a little (very little) disappointed because it needs such a pig...
Retail contains HL2 and CS:S
Silver contains HL2, CS:S, HL:S, DOD:S, and all of valve's back catalogue.
Which is better bang for your buck? Depends on if you like steam or not. I got Silver myself.
Edit: Collector's retail contains all of the silver stuff too methinks, but costs alot more.
Lol @ Bobcat! That seems to be my prob on almost all forums, not just this one. I have been here since, well, I don't know, for a while, and I don't post useless threads. While I do appreciate the concerns regarding repeat threads, I don't think any sort of draconian or elitist policy...
I loved Gonarch's lair. I remember loading it up for the first time, hearing that wierd scream and thinking "wtf was that?". Then there was that galloping sound and that huge one balled crab running towards me. That was a fun boss battle.
Probably the most memorable moment for me was the...

It would be nice if they could let us play as soon as hl2 goes gold, after all this is an old game, and isn't necessarily part of hl2, so is it bound to the same terms of sale? Ie: can we play it before hl2 gets to shelves? Sorry if this has been asked already.
It will still be a lot of fun to play with the enhanced physics and ragdoll effects. I can't think of any single player game that has enjoyed the same longevity and positive fan response after this long besides half life (except maybe the original doom series.)
