I don't think the hydra controls water, you can't stab someone with a liquid. If you look at the concept art, you can see some organic material inside the hook thing. I think it looks just like water so it can blend into the water.

Even if tyhey did just throw some stuff into the game to make for a sequel, they probably wrote the sequel it so it fits into the first game...

No, no no. The alien slaves make a weird "agagagagagga!!!!" when they die. The combine soldiers make an human scream sound, but the reason it sounds weird, is because you hear it through a radio. And after they die you hear a flat line. "AAAARRGGHH!!! Beeeeeeeeeee....." Plus, the legs...

And another thing that makes me think they're workers: They have aprons, and they have no firearms, and there aren't any firearms on the ground. What's up with that?

could you explain that to me? I'm not familiar with any of those examples :/ And even if they are different, don't you think they must be somehow connected, if nihilanth mixes his flesh with steel (you can tell that he isn't sitting on it, or he shoved it in there, ouch) and so do the combine...

well, nihilanth is probably a biomech, so it must be connected to the combine somehow, since the combine are/control biomechs? And if you want to know about the soldiers, you'd have to talk to me privately about that.
