    GF100 launch speculation

Well since these cards are late it is nice for ATI that their scheduled refresh is not far off.

    GF100 launch speculation

This isn't hard launch info (that should be available March 26th) but this is speculation on what will be from VR-Zone. Dailytech's article They say Nvidia didn't hit their target specs so they dropped some SPs and clock speed for the cards at launch. "The intended GF100 has 512 SP clocked at...

John Cook on Steam on Mac

By mature I was thinking community, friends, large user base (tons of PC users to play with). The deals of which publishers can be on steam is already there, they just have to port the titles if they wish. Which is an undertaking, yes and few will do it right away.

John Cook on Steam on Mac

The "biggest event in Steam's history" comment was in regard to how big the project is. It does more than adding value to existing PC games. And it's investing in a completely different market on a full scale instead of just a few games (Xbox 360). This is awesome for their market position for...

Girl Kills Herself With Wii Gun...

That Wii gun looks like it would be really fun to use instead of the white wii gun. But why get a look-a-like toy when you own a gun and have a kid? And then letting your own gun out of your sight?

    Internet Sales tax imminent.

For the most part people are supposed to report their online purchases and pay sales tax on it. But it just isn't enforced up front which is what they are going for here. What I don't get is that you could end up paying your local tax when buying things online from someone in another state...

    Hard drive torture test?

Most of the time when a drive starts getting bad sectors it will happen quicker and quicker (get out while you still have your data). It probably depends on why it is happening. But more likely than not it will get more and more bad sectors once it starts. You can get your HDD to ignore bad...

Good video card for around $100

"Up to three monitors can be driven at the same time using a single card." 3 monitors including the displayport. Also Nvidia power supply recommendation for GTX 480 - min 600watt w/42amps on +12v. But of course I'd wait until march 26 at least.

Good video card for around $100

March 26th I think. Guessing $300-600 price range with a lot of "not in stock". 5750 beating 4850 - demanding graphics 5750 just similar to 4850 - valve game power consumption 210w vs 254w The 5750 should be $130. Only one really is that price, the rest have raised their prices since they are...

Good video card for around $100

You know Nvidia is launching their new card soon so why not wait until then. ATI may drop prices on their DX11 5000 series or not... But until then $100 is old parts.

A few questions about a PC i'm about to purchase.

I would drop the quad for a 3 core CPU if it would mean you could get a better GPU. And if you don't need to buy asap then maybe wait a bit for something like that case or one similar to go on sale. Make sure a case has free shipping too or you might as well buy an $80 case with free shipping...

How can I tell if other bittorent users are downloading

My brother used to use a lot of bandwidth when we shared a net connection. When I got bad ping playing online games I'd just have him drop his upload to 10kb and download to 50 and I would be good. Then I'd let him raise his rates after I was done. I didn't cut him off and he didn't kill my...

    How do torrents work (in-depth)

Yeah, what Vegeta said. If demand is low a direct download from a site will pretty much always be quicker.

A few questions about a PC i'm about to purchase.

Keep in mind you want a 16x PCI-Express slot not just any PCI-Express for a graphics card. There are PCI-Express 1x and 4x slots. He could be talking about one of those which won't fit a GPU card.

    Ipod amp worth it?

Not all $100+ headphones need an amp. And expensive doesn't mean awesome either. Some of the price you pay is for branding for both dre and monster. Another part is noise cancellation. Not sure if it is true. Seems noise canceling have some kind of amp built-in. "muddy" sound when adding an...

So I'm buying a new hard drive...

I've usually got feeling that the Maxtor brand was not viewed very well by most people while with Seagate it mattered more with the model. Both good models and bad depending on what 5 year time frame people had experience with their products. Maybe Maxtor was like that too but that wasn't the...

    x1900xt -> 4850

Which 8800GTS do you have? 320MB and 640MB versions are older versions. The 512MB version is a lot better even if it has the same name. In fact that one is just a little slower than the 8800 Ultra. Similar to a GTX. If you are looking at a 5000 series card I would wait until Nvidia's DX11 stuff...
