In the US, today is the 23rd... which is 1 week till the 30th. No one said the game HAD to be sent exactly a week before HL2's release. It could happen 4 days before the release. Maybe even 3. No one really knows except Valve.
Hmm, last game I was really excited about... Uh, I'm fairly certain it was Neverwinter Nights. That game was supposedly going to be an awesome single player experience with an incredible editor for real D&D sessions. Worked out pretty well, the options where there, but it didn't execute very well.
Any major gaming site will report the gold announcement. Sites like IGN, Gamespy, Gaming-age, Gamespot, etc. They'll all report it when the announcement is made.
