Big maps are ok as the server sends you a compressed file, as an example a 15MB map would be sent to you as a file only around 3MB in size, launch your map in developer mode and have someone connect who doesnt have the map and it will tell you the compressed size.

I find it much easier to do terrain displacement on a larger area and on multiple blocks by selecting all the blocks, and painting them together.
Then you don't need to worry that much about sewing them as the edges of each block move with the edge of the next block...
Press alt-enter with the entity selected and check StartFadedist is -1 and EndFadeDist is 0.
If they are already at that then I dunno, but this is a quite a common solution.

As dart321 says, check the StartFade and EndFade in the entity properties, if you accidently moved the circles by mistake they dont seem to ctrl+z back to the right properties.
Most models have default Startfade of -1 and EndFade of 0.

Dont think so, they clarified the rules after I sent them an email, and it now says it cant be submited if it hasnt been published after december the 1st. So it should be fine to release the map.

says that there is no rain texture in hl2. Maybe if there is one in CS:S you could extract it and use it in hl2 maps. Either that or make one yourself.
