Weird, try deleting the .minecraft folder in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\ (w7/vista), and re-download the .exe from the site, and then redownload the entire game.

Currently its just me and my friend, and we have not experienced any lag problems whatsoever. Multiplay is one of the best gaming server providers in the world. Might depend on your location tho.

Me and my friend have our own private server. Once we get some admin tools installed we can let people come in and play. Wont be an official hl2.net server but open for you guys to play at. Got our own teamspeak server too, but it only allows 8 people atm.
