You aren't really paying $14.99 a month just for the game. You are paying for the servers, for the constant game patches and expansions.

I think the cars are based around real ones, such as the FXO (an FTO lookalike) etc... sort of like GTA. :) It is really realistic, but even if you don't have a steering wheel, still check it out, it can be very fun with the mouse :)

The map you are speaking of in the stolen build, the one with the moving ground, actually didn't have moving ground. I don't know how halflife2.net staff feel about the posting of such maps, but I think Valve would not condone it seeing as it was basically stolen from them.
