I'd say that's a good bet. I bet it's roughly the same cost as a company that wants to license the source engine for its game (SIN episodes, for instance)
Since the Mac is Unix-based now, if they wrote HL2 for Linux, would it be somewhat easy to port that over? (I haven't done any Mac programming, so I have no idea)
What I find funny is that the Mac fanboy is calling Gabe a money-grubbing asshole. Has he ever watched Steve Jobs talk? (well, of...
What about something like Super Metroid, where it's like "I have 3 minutes to escape this facility... if I take my time I'll make it out in 2 mins, and if I rush it'll take 55 seconds." Personally, I thought that gave a good sense of urgency without making it impossible.
Yeah, even to make an Iceworld clone for CS or a simple Orange map for DOD:S takes me several hours. I imagine Valve's maps take like 5 minutes per square foot.
By the way, here is the definitive answer, from the installer:
So there you go.
They've been showing this off as far back as E3 2003, with the G-Man saying "I'm only going to say this once..." and then spewing some phrase in Chinese.
Pardon me if I'm wrong, but I thought that this was merely the last installment in "MINERVA: Metastasis". I thought his plan was to release more chapters in the story.

If my school didn't have a shitty connection to the outside world right now, I would love to play.
Too bad my average ping to ANY server off-campus is 700ms. :flame:
Additionally, I'm all ready to set up my own TF2 server, but it'll be running on a Linux machine. :(
I briefly considered writing a Perl script that would basically do the following (in pseudocode):
while(1){
UpdateTF;
if(UpdateActuallyHappened)
break;
`sleep 60s`;
}
startServer;
Damn... I was hopeful for a second, cause my Linux DS gave this message when I tried updating:
I had received that message a few days ago when I pre-loaded the TF2 content on the server. However, I tried again, and got the "HLDS installation up to date" message. :(
Keep in mind that if you had bought retail, you would have to wait until October 11th in order to play Team Fortress 2. It's because you're buying through Steam that the September 17th date was even an option.
If you buy it over Steam, you're getting it almost a month early. Twelve hours (or...
