Ofcourse piracy isn't the only problem, I just think that it is a really big problem. A shitty port isn't going to sell and everybody knows that, but a nicely made game will sell even with high system-reqs, if it is not available for free. If piracy for the PC was as complicated as piracy for...
Yeah, but for big games you are going to need the publishers. Ofcourse smaller studios and one-man teams make a killing on steam, but I also want those big nice games and I am very frustrated by all the people that really want the same as me but are not willing to pay for it even when they can...
I disagree. I think that the reason Ubisoft is not prioritizing the PC is that they know they will sell less games for it, partly due to piracy. While it is possible to pirate games for the xbox it is very much more effort than pirating for PC and afaik involve voiding HW-guarantee (which is why...
The thing is that not every game developer can have their own steam (and actually using steam defeats the purpose since valve grabs a huge slice of the pie) and there is nothing to be done about the competition from consoles. Piracy is not the only problem facing the PC, but it is a very serious...
If the steam-numbers add so much to the whole picture, why are they not released? Because they don't. Sure, steam is great, especially for Valve, but thinking it budges the world-wide sales numbers for the PC is lunacy. It's good old fashioned marketing-bs.
I like how the success stories of...
People are pretty HW-blind when "6800 or x800 series not supported" means low minimum requirements. Warcraft3 ran fine on intel integrated gpus back in the day. These specs are insane. (And most probably not final...)
The numbers are wrong. Shame on everybody who don't question statistics.
The source is gamespy who are either making up numbers on the spot or just very very bad at collecting information.
At the time of writing they are reporting about 1300 players, while I, in the steam serverbowser, can...
The point is that the billions WoW rake in do not really benefit anyone but activision-blizzard (aka vivendi), and they will not in some way translate this renevue into good-will for the PC as a gaming-platform. They will focus on consoles if that makes financial sense, and unless you make an...
I think he (and everybody) misunderstands the success of WoW as a success of PC-gaming (when it is quite the opposite) but apart from that he does have some good points.
However, his apparent faith in the PC as a gaming platform seems to be entirely based upon his own stake in it and not so...
I had the opportunity to try all three just now and I found ratchet and clank to be the most enjoyable. Ofcourse, I'm not used to playing games with the typical console controller so I had a little trouble with unchartered and especially resistance.
I played ratchet and clank for an hour or...
Make sure you look for unofficial patches. When I played it (ages ago) there was a high resolution-pack at least. It wasn't perfect but it improved a whole lot.
I loved it, but I agree that it pales in comparison to the original, which is true for virtually every game out there, even today.
It didn't take long for Prey to sell one million copies (combined) and that was the magic number they needed to start working on more Prey.
I got the original prey and liked it. It could have been better, but it was good enough for me to want more.
I wouldn't say "skyrocket". Even with 10M copies sold, which is possible in a long timeframe, that's only USD 500M revenue. To put it in perspective that is quite a bit less than the premium EA are offering for Take Two.
The offer from EA is thus quite extravagant and refusing it would be...
It is obviously heavily influenced by hl2, and also uses the source engine, making the resemblance even more striking. The end product may deviate a little more.
Anyway, the idea of making a hl2-ish game and making the mechanics more complex doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. It's going to...
You are right that people complain alot, but you are wrong in thinking that complainers vote with their dollars.
As time passes there will be less places without internet. For example, a major buscompany in the country I live last week anounced that they would implement internet connectivity on...
I could not disagree more with this blog. Chris Taylor is right: In a few years there will be no tripple-a games that can be played without a consistent broadband connection. That is the only thing that can save PC-gaming against the malignant cancer that is piracy.
I agree that it is not reason enough to not buy the OB, but hl2/ep1 were not free. They came at the expense of the black box. Pricing details were not anounced, but it would obviously have been cheaper than the OB.
