£200 ($355) for a new graphics card

AGP or pci-e ?

Imo, there is little point in getting one of the current generation ati cards over an nvidia, as they are outdated and lack some of the up to date features of the nvidia cards. But if pci-e, then the new generation might be worth a try, i'm sure the X1600 will be a very good bang for buck card.

If you are on agp though, i would recommend the 6800GT

I'm pretty sure it's PCI. It's quite a new motherboard. What are the latest Nvidia cards named?

I could probably go up to £225-250.

In which case, i would go for the nvidia 7800GT, the new bang for your buck king. Barely costs more than the 6800GT and is a good 30 percent or so faster

The X1800XL is puny, nowhere near the specs of the 1X800XT, imo the 7800GT will be the better card bang for buck
