The Eraser: 1/5 of a New Radiohead Album!

Has anyone picked up Thom Yorke's The Eraser? It sounds just how you would expect a Thom Yorke solo album to sound - very electronic, reminiscent of some of the more beat-heavy Radiohead work (Backdrifts from Hail to the Thief comes to mind). It's a more intimate, stripped down version of Radiohead without the sweeping, epic grandeur. Legend has it, he composed the entire thing on his laptop just to amuse himself - so this isn't Thom trying to break free of his chains or anything. Radiohead's seventh album is still on the way. :D

It's by no means a work of genius - some of the songs seem woefully underdeveloped - but I really enjoy it. Any fan of the more electronic side of Radiohead should definitely pick it up.

Alright... I know there are some Radiohead fans on this board. We have a member named "RaDiOhEaD" (or some such unholy use of the shift key) for crying out loud! Has no one else heard of The Eraser?

Heard of it. Heard a few songs. It's alright.

I'm not a big fan of Radiohead though. Kid A, Pablo Honey, and OK Computer are good, but nothing spectacular as everyone makes them out to be.

Love Radiohead, but this album has been slated, i must say i'm not a big fan of it either. I want them all together!

Other than John Lennon, has the lead singer of a popular rock band ever gone solo and actually been good at it?

Radiohead's one of my favorite bands ever though, so I may as well try it.

I'll give it a shot, but I think they work better as a group.

However, I like their electronic side and thought Kid A was their best album.

I suppose you could say Phil Collins, but whether you'd quantify Phil Collins as the true lead singer of Genesis is up to you. Oh, and Sting.

Yeah i suppose Phil Collins is definately within that category although he most certainly was a drummer back in the day. Robbie Williams too i must concede to, as i don't like him but he's had more success than 'take that' easily.

I never have "got" the more obscure Radiohead tracks, and that is what this solo effort sounds like to me.

Sorry, but my opinion is:- Utter pish.

Radiohead is my favorite band, but man, I'm not even sure if I want to touch this one. Thom's got some amazing talent, but I think it's the other guys in the band who really keep him grounded from being way too pretentious in their music (which is already mostly pretentious anyway). Letting him go off and do his own experimentations without the rest of the band to hold him back a bit seems like a bit of a scary idea.
