Same, I'm getting there I have five friends* who have the game.

*friends as in people I know in real life - I could just send/accept invites from random internet people to get it but I don't see the point.

but I don't like playing with my ping on the UK server and nobody ever seems to be on the US one

BTW the "friends" achievement requirements are different in the Community list from the in-game TF2 - do you just need eight friends playing on the same server as you or do they have to be the only people on your team?

Lol, I played through it and looked at the achievements and was like "Wow, I missed most of em!"

As I've been playing TF2 I make it a habit of adding decent players (whom I like to play with/against) to my friends list (if you are my friend, you're a quality player imo) and 95% of the time they accept the invite so it didn't take long for me to get the achievement.

I haven't really payed attention to the achievements yet somehow I've got 15 so far. It makes for fun surprises. A good example is a match I played on cp_well in which I bum-rushed their last control point as a Scout while they worried about the other points. The little "lightning offensive" tabbed popped up and I thought it was a neat little accomplishment.

In case anyone is interested I'm going for Portal next.
I'm probably not going to aim for ep2 because my graphics card isnt good enough for that game (damn voritigaunt scene).
