If you have a 1000 MHZ fsb on your athlon 64 would there be a problem withThis memory? Are timings a big deal with Athlon 64's? I will probably be overclocking a lot so I just want to know if this memory will be ok.

I got the same ram except pc3200 and its on an fx-53. I can't really tell if there's any problems as its not fully an operation computer yet, but that should be fine especially if your overclocking. What Athlon 64 are we talking about?

Still dont know what one I want yet but it will be socket 939. Either 3500 or FX-53 depending on what kind of deals i get on some of the other hardware. My guess would be the 3500 has a much better overclocking potential and get more bang for the buck.

There is no FSB on an Athlon 64 system. You mean the HT link.

You should look for 2-2-2-5 memory that Corsair has come out with. Supposedly it allows for memory speeds up to DDR500 specs while allowing for decent timings. I am pretty sure that it will cost a pretty penny.

As always, check with your motherboard to make sure the RAM you have selected is compatable with your motherboard.

I guess it would be better to just overclock those new 3200xl that corsair has but one thing ive noticed is that the faster memory such as DDR500 is a lot cheaper then the DDR400. Not that i would but couldnt you just undeclock the 500 to a 400 ratings thus saving yourself a lot of money.

Yes, but I am willing to bet that DDR 500 RAM timings are worse than DDR 400 RAM. But, I bet you could tighten up the timings some if you underclock the RAM. :O

Yeah, it's a HT link. The reason you don't hear people talk about it is because you don't ever OC the HT link really. Infact that is why you don't hear ppl say FSB for A64 either.

For instance my HT is 800mhz (200x4) so I put it to 3x and OCed my base clock to 230mhz. My HT link is now 690mhz which won't affect performance at all. My CPU is 230x10=2.3GHz and my memory is 188mhz. My memory was 166 (PC2700) but it uses a ratio for memory. You are ocing the base clock which affects the memory and CPU speed.

BTW a 1GHz HT doesn't even connect to the memory so that is not an issue at all. Remember the memory is linked right to the CPU and the memory controller is onboard the CPU which runs at the CPU's speed.

It really is a different way of thinking than normal FSB/Memory systems.
btw the reason I decreased my HT speed is so it wouldn't limit my OC.
The A64's with the 1GHz HT link use 200x5.
