Hopefully it won't be too long before they are comparable in price to high end desktop hard drives.
Now a new wave of SSDs is upon us, led into our labs by Super Talent's SATA25. This 2.5" drive packs a stunning 128GB of total capacity and claims sustained read and write speeds of 60MB/s and 40MB/s, respectively—huge improvements over previous solid-state drives.
The speeds are lower than good SATA hard drives but this doesn't have to spin-up or move a hard drive head to the read/write spot.

$4600, ouch. But it delivers in a number of the tests, like boot times and power consumption.

Its the next step in evolution, the final thing holding PCs back. Well, apart from windows :)

lol, almost 5 grand.

BiTMICRO is surpassing all rivals with a 416GB 2.5" ATA-133 SSD. The E-Disk Altima family of SSDs (4GB to 416GB) uses single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash memory and offer 133MB/sec burst speeds. BiTMICRO also claims that the drive has sustained read/write speeds of 100MB/sec and can crank out 20,000 Random IOPS.

They are getting larger and faster at an incredible pace. It is only a matter of time before they drop to a price level that I could call affordable!
