I am thinking about buying a DVD burner and just wondering if I am going to notice a difference between 12x dvd rom read or 16x dvd rom read. Will there difference be that big when Im watching movies and installing games or will it be hardly noticable?

These are the two drives I am looking at.
NEC
Pioneer

I would love to get a plextor but they are way to exspensive.

Write speeds arent as important to me as read speeds because I dont really care if it takes a extra 5 minutes to burn. 8x is more then enough. Im more concerned if I will experience slower dvd playback or game installs.

If anyone knows any better drives at a decent price Im open to suggestions.

There is practically no difference between a 5x and a 16x when watching movies because they aren't supposed to play any faster if you have a faster drive. Game installations will take the same amount of time (unless you get DVD versions of your games, then there may be a slight difference) because they both read CD-ROMs at 40x.

EDIT: It really comes down to whether or not you want pay the extra $30 to be able to write DVD±Rs twice as fast (that is, if your system can handle 16x and you buy media capable of 16x).

Do they even make DVDs capable of burning at 16x right now?

The 16x media would probably not be worth the price.
