140 more people die today

such a preventable mess

THE PRESIDENT: My fellow citizens, at this hour, American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the world from grave danger.

On my orders, coalition forces have begun striking selected targets of military importance to undermine Saddam Hussein's ability to wage war. These are opening stages of what will be a broad and concerted campaign. More than 35 countries are giving crucial support -- from the use of naval and air bases, to help with intelligence and logistics, to the deployment of combat units. Every nation in this coalition has chosen to bear the duty and share the honor of serving in our common defense.

such a preventable mess
Why the hell are you preaching to us. You're not allowed to start debates in the general off-topic section, and in case you didn't know the ****ing president doesn't read hl2.net. Do you ever learn anything? Do you ever stop to think about the exact reasons you post what you post? The war is ****ing horrible, we all ****ing know, that's why this thread exists. We get it. Stop rubbing it in our faces when we can't even do anything.

such a small amount to the total amount of death per day, i dont see the reason to cry unless you were specifically part of the incident, or related in anyway

Easy. Your sentiment is understood, but let's try to keep a level of respect for one another and act like reasonable people. Stern, in the interest of reducing conflict, please spare any sort of condescending reply and let this comment slide. The sort of argument this could easily turn into isn't healthy, and off-topic isn't the place. Let's try to be more civil.

Don't embrace being jaded. Relativity to even worse events is irrelevant... 140 people dying violently is a horror more real and terrible than you could ever even deign to consider imagining, and I'd suggest keeping a level of gravity and respect for that fact, lest you lose sight of what's important.

Sorry I tend to let my emotions roar when I'm dealing with Stern (<3) I could have addressed him and the issue I had with him in a more civil manner.

Stern I don't like how you treat every thread that involves something you have a strong opinion about into an opportunity for you to start one of your aggressive debates (aggressive meaning saying shit that more or less insults an entire country) in a section that is not meant for that purpose.

I think that emotional restraint when it comes to resolving our differences in opinion here is something that's been ... lacking, lately. I'm aware that I'm guilty of this as well. I think we should probably all try to be a bit more laid back and generally discuss things in a more understanding manner. We're all people, after all.

(by the way, I know that I'm preaching a bit here, but I'm referring to things generally lately rather than this specific thread)

Silly Ennui. Things happen only when you SCREAM AT IT!!!

so I should restraint myself because someone else flew off the handle? ...interesting

I make a valid point in a calm reasonable way, someone else loses what little composure he normally has and flies into a diatribe of baseless accusations and insults ..and then there's a call for civility..he then apologizes to Ennui and then resumes his insult laden and inaccurate assessment on why he thinks I hate America ..explain exactly why I should be civil to vegeta? I'll just do one better and put him on my ignore list

I have no doubt it was horrible beyond my imagination, but it is pointless to dread over others who we dont even know to ANY extent whatsoever, and have absolutely no connection, and is just pointless PERIOD. I show respect for those that were close, or were related, or involved in it, as i would also be very sad, but for those that are not, besides symapthy, i see no use, or even need to go further than that and of course, respect.

Even making a point, just being by you, is igniting an argument. -_______-

Don't ask why. I'm not quite sure either.

ya I seem to attract the crazies

death toll from bomb blast is up to 180 ..other bombings killed scores more ..total for bomb blasts is 230 ..that doesnt include random murders, kidnappings and the numbers only account for baghdad ...the average is 3000 civilian casualties a month (conservative estimate for baghdad alone) ..as of last year, I'm sure the figure is much higher now

Pretty sure more people die due to starvation then people do in these holy wars they've been haveing.

Based on what I've been reading, this latest string of bombings seems to be in response to the handing over of securit in select regions to Iraqi forces. It almost looks like the terrorists are trying to keep the US in Iraq, which will likely be the case if we see more of these attacks occuring as more reqions are turned over to the Iraqi military. Iraq still does not possess are large or stong enough defense force to couter such organized and deadly terrorist attacks and the government will likely request US and allied assistance at the very minimum (analysts have said this so I'm not just pulling it out of my behind). My guess would be that the terrorists want to keep the negative feelings towards the US flowing world wide and further demoralize the US community by forcing US forces to maintain a hands on role in Iraq.

Either way, this is a disgusting turn of events and it saddens me that there are people in this world that can commit such attrocities.

yes that makes sense they vblow up 230 people just so the world will hate america ....riiiight

Lol at vegeta, wtf. Nothing Stern said was out of order in the slightest. Your country is more responsible for what happened today than any other and there's a hell of alot you can do, that's the joy of living in a democracy, just get off your ass and do it.

I used to be like that. Don't.

Sure, you don't have to go on mourning of 3 days, but you just have to stop and think about all those lives lost; even for just a second. That's respect.

It's somewhat saddening when you realize it would actually be news if noone got bombed there today

nope ..saddam had control over the extremists by being extreme ..to the max

Put a lid on it. Not necessary.

I knew before I even opened this thread there would be a comment in here somewhere by Stern blaming the US for the actions of terrorists.

As predictable as a blind man crashing a car, though far more tedious and nonsensical.

But you started it :p

I have no desire to get into the "war was a good/bad decision" argument. However, I think people need to remember that whatever has happened, the blame lies squarely on the shoulders of the man who set off the bomb.
