This website is the only website that is working for me. MSN or any other internet based programs won't connect to the internet. Any other website I try to access basically comes up with a web page (like one of those intrusive search engines that overrides the default MSN one in IE) saying it cant find the website at all.

eg: Sorry, we could not find http://www.msn.co.uk/

Please check the spelling, or try one of the items below.

What's going on?

ummm, thats wierd, do you have on work offline in IE? Check ur connection too. Start there I guess.

have you used any spyware removing programs latly?

(this is very relevant)

If your on Pipex then they're having major problems and won't be fixed for a quite a long time, so I hear.

I've been having the same problems for the past few hours, seems to be clear now though. Must be a Britain thing, because |MaTT|'s been getting the same troubles too.

That's really odd...

Must have somethin' to do with your ISP. What company are ya' currently goin' through?

Well, it seems that Chris_D is NTL, yet I'm on blueyonder... hmm.

Yep, I'm on NTL. I rebooted and the site got worse. But it just loaded up the reply page quite quick. Still not connecting to MSN though.

The only thing I can think of that might be affecting it is that I installed i-mesh (P2P program) a few days ago. It comes with GAIN (adware) and I'm sure other stuff too, but the problem only started tonight. I was on til 12:30am last night, I came on this morning at 8.30am and my mum was on it for a few hours this afternoon. The only firewall I use is the default Windows (XP) one that I've now disabled because MSN churns out an error about proxy, http and firewalls.

Is there any sort of virus or malware or any other sort of problem programs that can do this to my connection or is it just NTL?

Why's this site the only one working?!

Some connection cable was damaged under the ocean.

I had the same problem Chris, and all my other mates who are in my area. But i managed to connect to MSN messnger, and im NTL aswell.

Was it a connection wire breaking? ah, well that explains it

I'm on the outside, i'm looking in.
I can see through you, see your true colours
Inside your ugly, ugly like me.
I can see through you, see to the real you...

sounds like a connection problem not a software one.

I have had a similar problem this evening, with certain sites just not working. However, this was one of the sites not working, so I don't know what's going on. I'm in the UK, but I'm on BT broadband.

proberly a wire problem, but this is the only site working eh? that sounds like a software one... tell us again in about a week. We'll know by then.

It seems like its just in the uk then, becasue people on different connections are suffering. damn it, why do us UK peeps suffer?

The same thing happened to me a while ago back in September. All the search engines stopped working on my computer. In fact I couldn't use any of them exept for a couple of no-name ones like "your.com". The problem has recently been fixed and the only search engine that doesn't work for me is yahoo.com

It's strange.

It seems to be back up now. I found out earlier that NTL (at least) were having technical problems.
