One, the way i have learned for carveing/cutting/removeing something is to make a object and place it where you want to cut that shape out and turn the shape that will remain into a boolean and clike oprend b on the pice to cut... The problem i keep haveing is that yes it cuts that out, but it kinda makes that spot hallow... like its removeing on not letting faces be visable where the object cut... Say i got a circle and im useing a cube to cut into it, it cuts through it fine, but it also like if you where to take a camera into the whole it looks hallow becuase the faces around the cube where removed along with the cube.. *i hope i explained that ok**sorry*

And one of the bigger problem's is i was useing "http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/max/joanofarc/joanmenu.asp"
Or incase that doesnt post... the joan of arc tutorial on 3dtotal....

But the problem i keep haveing is that when i make the leg in the left viwe the leg comes out flat becuase i didnt do anything in the front or what ever other viwe for makeing a leg look normal... Ive tryed pulling the vertacies in the front viwe from the model i made in the left viwe but as you can imagine it isnt working to make a leg....

I will keep looking for the awnsers to my questions, but have been looking for a little bit- So if you could help me out on this id greatly appriciate it...

PS: I switched from useing a square with alot of vertices to the extrude method for makeing weapons.... its alot quicker :)

i can give you a tip on the first one, but im not sure what youre asking on the second. first off, let me be the first to say, avoid as best you can using booleans in game models, they leave your mesh all messy, and it can be a real arse to clean up.

basically, to answer your question, make the shape you want to carve out first, exactly as you want, then use the align tool and make it so its on the edge, protruding into the mesh, but not stick out the other side. then, use your boolean, which as you say, just cuts a hole in the faces, then weld the vertices of your carving and edge of your hole ( now now children, dont be naughty ). thats what id do, that seemed like common sense to me, but maybe theres an option to do exactly what youre asking at the click of a button.

have fun

forgot to mention a key point to booleans Random,, thats to try and make sure there are enough, and equalish amounts of polygons on each of the objects, one the Operator ,and the other which is the boolean subject (place it carefully and it neatens the boolean right up). But if you just want to .. say make a cup. start with a Cylinder , convert it to an editable poly,, inset the top face by 2.0... then extrude the inside of the faces downward close to the bottom. and you have a simple cup in 8 seconds really.
