Every single game gets cracked, warez, and distributed online illegally. I have think of two solutions to this problem, but i'm not sure they work though.

Solution number 1:
The game must have online mode and the online portion of the game must be important. People will have to purchase the game to get a valide cd-key which will be check by an efficient system, such as WON which was used by valve before (steam isn't efficient enough). Bloodline was supposed to have multiplay, then the developper said they wanna concentrate on the story mode (the same bullshit and excuse that was used by many other developpers), people will simply get the warez version.

Solution number 2:
Make the game huge, as huge as possible, like 2 or 3 dvd, so the amount of people who are willing to download the game will diminish. When I saw metal gear solide 2 pc which had like 7 cd-rom, i simply decided not to play it.

one thing i really don't understand, people who download warez are beneficial from it, but who are the warez releasers, why are they doing it, i mean they don't get paid from nobody, right ? they risk their life and career in doing so, but they still keep doing it ?? I really want to know who these people are.

I'm afraid neither of those would work. They could download a 6 gig game in one day if they wanted. If you make the game huge it means they'll just have to wait three days and I don't think that'll stop em.

Problem is with what Valve did with HL2, is they prolly lost more money than if they didn't implement such a system, since a no-steam crack came out no later than 2 days after the release. Not only does it lose sales of people that have no internet, but the pirates also have more of an incentive to crack, because I know of people who have sold cracked copies to people who had no other choice because of having no internet on the gaming computer.

Sometimes the warez scene serves as a great advertisment and marketing tool. Microsoft could close most warez sites in a blink of an eye. Isnt it strange they never did so?

I think piracy has become a bigger problem recently. Becouse of BitTorrent and other p2p programs it has become so easy for people to get a hold of pirated material. The internet connections is getting faster too which makes it even more easy.
A few years ago the pirate scene was more underground and didint hurt the developers as much. Back then the problem was that people burned the software at home and gave to their friends.

They do it for the respect they get from the other groups. They take pride in being the first to crack and release a software.

I've heard that the power-up for Trackmania, hasn't been cracked yet because the copy protection is that good... Dunno if it's true.

The only things that will limit piracy are making higher quality games and reducing the price of them

Microsoft wouldn't close most warez sites in a blink of an eye becuase they can't. You cannnot just shut a site down it's a long and complicated procedure.

Usually becuase you have to agree to a disclaimer saying anything you view in the site can't be used against it.

You are right, but truth is they have to win on court only once. If they manage to close one site or even declare illigal the uploading of copyrighted software on public access servers then all would be over. Perhaps very difficult but not entirely on the cant do it, no way to be accomplished either...
The movie corporations rely mostly on ticket sales and are hurt because of piracy. Microsoft on the other hand makes millions from other corporations that use their products. They dont really care if John Doe has a pirated version of windows installed on his home pc.
It is very helpfull from a marketing and educational point of view that every John Doe in this world is using MS products at home.
Think about it, the more people that are familiar with photoshop for example, the more sales for Adobe especially to corporations that need their product.

As for conspiracy theories, nah Im not really into them. The way I see it, leet haxorz win from the ads in their sites and software developers win from the publicity, advertisement and familiarity the end user is geting to their products.
