I know people always talk about this kinda stuff, but its interesting and i havent seen a thread like this lately.

So, in 20 years time what do you think things will be like?
Will there be another global war, perhaps spurred by survival more than any kind of idealogical doctrine. Maybe Britain will be a big ice berg and half the world will be covered in ice.
Perhaps no major disaster will happen beyond Gabe having a heart attack and the delayed hl3 being postponed indeffinately...

In 20 years from now I will be living in a remote tropical island because some actor/actress decided to run for president and was elected.

I'm going to put in the obligatory delay joke out now, just to get that out of the way:

Maybe in 20 years, they'll finally release Half-life 2! ROOFLE!
Oh, wait. Farrow actually beat me to it. And here I was thinking I was Mr. Originality. :)

Anyways, if I don't have a robot by the time 20 years roll past, I'm going back in time to punch Issac Asimov.

in 20 years time, i'll still be the stupid numb bastard that iam now

/me does the La Bamba voice
in the year two thousaaaandd...

Mr. T will tell the world that he doesn't have a mohawk haircut, he just went bald on both sides of his head.

I think its gonna be like it was twenty years ago: a lot more like today than anyone wants to think. Of course there will be more cool stuff, but I'm not anticipating a historical singularity or anything.

Well, for starters we won't be posting here. We'll be 30 year old's posting on halflife3.net instead. Hurrah. And somehow America falls in love with Swarcheneggar so much that he becomes President Swarcheneggar. Promplty Nukes Iraq and Korea.

In reply to Direwolf

I dunno, i mean the world has changed a lot in the last 20 years. I dont know how old you are, but i think that under the age of 30-40 its hard to really see the change. If you are still in your 20's then you kind of grow up during the changes.

Anyway, i can see what you are saying but look at 1940 and 1960...two very different times.

I just think that stuff will happen that will no longer be smoothed over by the media. IE stuff in the rest of the world...

I was thinking more broadly than that. I'm certian society will have changed a lot, as will have politics.
But we're not going to be living like the jetsons or anything. People will still live in the same communities and work the same jobs, and life will still be similar to what its like today.

Oh yeah i get ya...But still there are things that can change all that quite easily. I just think, and morbidly (i say that because it could be bad, i dont know) hope that something big will happen.

Well if things go well, ill be dancing around with a flamethrower in my hand burning people, but asuming it doesnt id honestly say that things may have advanced a little, but not much of importance would had happened, just the usual stuff, terrorism would had been crushed and things would had calmed down a bit. Global warming would had flooded a few low lying countries and perhaps a few random animals would had become extinct. But the cool thing is those cool finger phones would had come out, i mean how cool is that now ill never be accused of picking at my earwax. :D. I want a robot dog, maybe a giant killer robot that hunts monkeys, oooh i cant wait. Mutating fish maybe? Perhaps www.pornstarsxxxlotsofpornhere.com will elect one of their girls to become president. Always a posibility. And yes i was bored

Well you could have something along the lines of what they call a historical singularity, that changes everything and causes a paradigm shift.
IE the invention of flight, the car, and the end of slavery. The internet may very well have the potential to do this.

The invention of flying slave cars! and way to say paradigm :p

I think that maybe, just maybe, VR will become mainstream for games. halflife3 anyone?

Half-life 3? Are you kidding? HL2 is almost out and that would make it almost 6 years after the release. If this pattern keeps up and Valve doesn't go out of business or conclude the game, we will be at Half-Life 5! Wow, that sounds so weird... Think of how HL1 will look in 20 years... Or even HL2... The graphics will be so amazing in 20 years. It's enjoyable to think about.

20 years from now there will be a writer whose novels (and perhaps plays and film with a game tie-in) will have re-shaped the world for the better.
I intend to be that writer.
