So what do you think of the opening ceremony so far?

I think I know why you aussies do well....You enter your whole country!

Some of the countries are funny...The British Virgin islands have one competator :)

Edit: Since noone is replying...John Titor!

John Titor is in the olympics? wow now you have my interest :)

havent seen the opening ceremonies but I'm more impressed by the preparations than the actual games ...did you know security for the games cost 1.4 billion? there are 70,000 security personel. Individul countries (the US was the most vocal) wanted their own troops protecting their citizens but the greek constitution forbids armed foreign soldiers on their soil. Athletes are staying on luxury cruise liners to make them less accesible to the public. Frogmen patrol the waters to prevent an attack by water. There's even a patriot missle deployed in case such a need arises. There's even a blimp flying around the grounds equipped with infra-red and thermal cameras

Interesting...although the idea of staying in a luxury cruise liner seems pretty nice, it wouldn't be hard to sink with a well placed boat bomb.

Heh, Iraq has just come on. They got quite a cheer :)

the frogmen! they would stop it ...oh and the coast gaurd plus the international waters off of greece are patroled

here in north america they seem to be getting overshadowed by the election. most news channels hardly mention them at all. :x

Yeah, seen him twice :P

Canada = pwn.

OOOooh wish i had HDTV, that would make the games so schweet.. I could see every bead of sweat, and not even be phased while i'm eating cheetos and drinking sugery soda while lying on the couch slowly dying of heart diseas.... uh, damn i need to get out more.

Here in the states nothing is being shown about the olympics. I didn't even know it started. I thought it was in another week or so or something.

The torch has just been lit!

Not so spectacular looking though, but certainly a powerful scene seeing that giant cigar looking thing rotate upwards.

I was watching it with my parents. But then... the beginning part was weird. I'll watch it the community centre while I work out.

Well, I've really liked what I've seen so far. They've done a good job on the ceremony, I must give them that. The costume design for the Greek history bit was very, very impressive.

I'll just ignore that. :P

Did you guys know that the Finland are in charge of televising the opening and closing ceremony? Almost all the cameramen are finnish, the director is and the producer(s) are finnish too.

Now that's something to be proud of.

The opening thing is so boring id rather pluck my eyes out then watch it :p. It gets mildly better when the actual games start but barely :P.

the winter ones are alot better than summer ones in pretty much every way imo. just more interesting to watch. they should never have split them apart though.

The USA were whistled to death both in the rehearsal and in the actual thing :p

Combine that with the dopping scandal and you have a nice reason for not showing it.

Bah...Didn't even know it was on....Damn politics and Hurricane Charlie taking up all the channels.

I'm sure it was on some channel...probably just had to look for it.

Nope...just flipped through 56 standard cable channels.Not on.... :(

Edit:Not even NBC and ABC has it!

The opening was very impressive, there was so many people from USA. I liked the greek history bit (As im in too all that stuff. I'd post more but Mistress needs sleep now. :/

Do you think Samuel L. Jackson was the USA's hat consultant?

Galkina set a new Olympic record by scoring 399 in the qualification round of the event.

The previous record of 397 was set by Kang Cho-hyun of South Korea in Sydney on Sept. 16, 2000.

check your PMs sprafa,
I wish i could find time to watch them, and actually find the channel :(

Bah, the Olympics don't interest me that much... especially not now when the English Premier League football has started!! w00t!!

Yeah! China just won the Men's 10m syncronized plattform dive.
Can't wait for gymastics.

British silver in sync diving.

Chinese first USA last :P

Was being the operative word :P

I suppose silver is alright...I get the feeling China will win everything because its just the kind of thing they would like to do (and not because everyone wants to win, but they might feel they have something to prove to the world...especially now)

I have to say...Watching grown men get wet and do twirls in tight speedos isn't my idea of sport either...but whatever floats your boat I suppose.
