Loading HL2, get kicked to desktop w/ following Engine Error:
failed to lock vertex buffer in CMeshDX8::LockVertexBuffer

Hit "OK" and get Half-Life 2: hl2.exe application error:
The instruction at "0x241f8977 referenced memory at "0x00e8f5c0". The memory could not be "read".
Click OK to terminate the program.

Was playing HL2 for 30 minutes or so before getting this error.

Had just gotten the wide screen panel late last week.

Had been playing w/out issues (except stutter) for weeks on 19" CRT and same 9800Pro drivers.

P41.6a @2.1 w/ 1GB PC2700.

Driving me nuts to say the least. Can play CS 1.6 just fine.
No other system issues.

Edit: just noticed under Display Properties/Settings, the 2005FPW is listed as 2 display devices, but #2 is indicated as Default Monitor...doesn't sound right...

^Bump^

Looks like I'm alone w/ this issue.

Can anybody with a 9800Pro confirm for me that the #2 Display Device is showing as "default monitor"...that's the part that seems screwy to me...

In the event I have some bad files within the HL2 folder...can I just delete the content and have Steam reinstall for me?

Thanks, 2o3. That's what I'd assume mine should show. I don't know how/why it moved to #2.

Any idea how to force Display Device #1 back to the Default Monitor?
