Philidelphia Enquirer said:Delaware County law enforcement officials expressed outrage yesterday over a violent video game that pits drug dealers against police.
A similar news conference was held in Bucks County in February, shortly after a national petition drive was launched to have the game removed from store shelves.
But those efforts have backfired, to some degree.
Sales of the game, 25 to Life, have been fueled by the law enforcement protests and online petitions, according to the company that produces it.
idiots, they're making this more than it should be ..even Eidos thinks it's a crappy game:
Eidos said:"Frankly, it is not a good title and under normal circumstances it would not be selling as well," said Michelle Curran, a public relations director for Eidos, the British producer of the game.
She said media attention and protests had been driving the sales.
yet they're still harping on it's content despite it's miserable sales figures ...oh and the game is rated "M"
the "Wont someone please think of the children" anal-retentive foundation said:The online petition drive the officers memorial fund launched began in mid-January and collected close to 270,000 signatures.
Local police chiefs brought the game to the attention of the Delaware County prosecutor. Yesterday, District Attorney G. Michael Green said the shooting deaths of two county police officers in 2001 and 2002 and another this year in Upstate New York were examples of the real violence against police that the game glorifies.
"We as police chiefs don't condone any type of violence," said Joe Kelly, president of the Delaware County Police Chiefs Association, who is concerned that young teens will play the game. "No matter what the rating, it is not good to have out there."
