2MB rates ?

Hey, a friend of mine recently upgraded from a standard 512 BB connection to a 2MB, problem is he's not sure what rates he should have now as im still on a standard connection and still getting a better ping then him, can anybody help please ?

512mb RAM
his computers fine, all he wants to know is the rates
