Does anyone think we will see anymore 3 monitor videocards and surround gaming sometime in the future. I know we had it for a while and wondering if nvidia and ATI are going to give it a shot. I know it would be expsensive and everything But I was looking at some old screen shots and it looked so cool to be able to see to your left and right when playing quake.

I know matrox tried it but I wasnt in to pcgaming that much then because I still loved my console.

I dont think everyone would shell out the money for 3 monitors but If the card was made and games that supported it I would concider getting it. Has anyone used this card? What was it like?

no, they are not planning on doing it. Not too bad of an idea, but not to many ppl would buy it.

Im sure if matrox merged with Nvidia or ATI then we would see one. Its not likely everyone would buy 3 monitors. If they want they can just use the one like most people do today but the 3 monitor support is there for the people that can afford it and want to use it. I think the two companies would have a hard time finding developers to support the feature because 90% of people wouldnt use it. If Nvidia came out with a 3 display videocard you know ATI is going to come out with one a couple months after (or the other way around).

I think 3 monitors would look hot. I want it :bounce:

I guess a card like that is more for proffesional users then it is for a gamer.

The main issue, besides cost, is the list of games that support it.
Games without the asterick officially support surround gaming.

Holy Shit that is a lot of games!!!!! :O

Now I really want one.

There are actually a few decent games on there.
Unreal2003
Unreal2004
Age of mythology
Return to castle wolfenstein
Max Payne 2 (works but not officially supported)
Star Wars Jedi Knight 2.
MotoGP
Ghost Recon
Enemy Territory
Medal of honor Breakthrough/spearhead
Rainbow 6 (works but not officially supported)
Rise of Nations

Those are all games I have played or do play. There are a couple more but I think you get the point.

Sound stupid but Im going to email ATI/Nvidia and ask If we are ever going to see one. I bet the answer is going to be we have no current plans at releasing a card with 3 monitor capability.

I know Matrox is working on a new card for release with longhorn that is supposed to support 3 monitors. Monitors are really cheap nowdays especially CRT's and the videomemory is getting fast enough and big enough to support it all but we still wont see one. ;(

hehe
I actually considered that list to be small.
I guess part of it is how I filter when I look at that list.
Games that are old, games that are only supported by hacks when using a matrox display adapter, and games that I am not interested in anymore.

Yes they are all old games (some of them) but if one of the companies were to come out with a card Im sure a lot of games would support them.

I do think the pharhelia has support for 3 monitors... But why waste money on that?

Edit: You could of course get some type of an external thingy that connects to your computer and allows you to connect multiple (2+ :P) monitors. Again, not 100% sure, but Im sure a quick google will do the job >:) :borg:

How about 2 nvidia cards in SLI... I wonder if that can support 4 monitors?

intersting qquestion. Does matrox even exist any more?!

You know why Dell does so well? They don't loose any money. Why? Becasue they don't make the PC until someone orders it. So ATI could say that they make cards like that, BUT you have to order it for them to waste thje money to make it. But i guess it would be different becasue they would have to research and Dell just has to build. But i don't know. Just an idea.

Yup, and their pharhelia 128mb version is being sold for 500€ in finland.. whoop-tey-doo! 6800 GTs go for 600€ here aswell, store pricing isnt too sane imo :P

Maybe its because there isnt a single x800 xt pe in europe...

Btw, matrox has a "shark mark" benchmarking thingy, I think it measures vs performance, and gee whiz, guess who always wins? :)
