300 Spartans!! Coming soon!

Looks dumb and cheesy.

nothing worse than modern music in a period movie.

Wow that trailer makes less sense than most of the threads here...

Too bad this is based on the comic book 300 and not the excellent book Gates of Fire. This is all flash and no real historical relevance. I will see it for the raw action vibe I get from the trailer, but it's certainly a horrible historical reference. Yes, 300 Spartans, along with a few thousand other Greeks, did fight the Persians at Thermopylae and managed to hold them long enough to allow the rest of the Greeks to form a resistance. But this movie is a stylized, watered-down version of what actually happened.

I personally want someone to make Gates of Fire, especially if they're going to pay attention to historical accuracy and the backstory. The only thing even close to it out on film is an older movie called The 300 Spartans. Check it out sometime. It's got more historical stuff. The battles may not be as bloody or flashy, but they're effective.

Oh cool Frank Miller's comics and movies pwn.

Fuggin' history fanboys.

Oh, and the effects look terrible, despite the fact the the real encounter was incredible!

I'm caustiously optimistic. Frank Miller really has nothing to do with it this time, so yeah.

Looks suitably over the top and cheesey - hardly an accurate version of events though ;)

The thing about the Spartans, something many people don't know, is that they were raging bummers to a man. Hard as nails, formidable in combat, possibly the toughest fighting force the world has ever known, but on the weekends they were picking out matching curtains with their life partner Ken. Just makes em more scary to me /o\

300 should be fun, but an authentic and historically accurate movie would be a million times cooler.

It'll be worth a DVD watch, but that's about it.

I mean the director's credits basically consists of Dawn of the Dead... and nothing else relevant. Frank Miller isn't involved either so my expectations are next to zilch for this movie (basically a slightly better popcorn action flick, wooo!)
