Hi, I have bought a new motherboard and processor (see signature for specs) I am going to fit these shortly but i was wondering if i should get a new PSU or not. The PSU i got with my case is 300W. Do you think i should get a higher PUS i.e 400w or greater?

goss, Thanks in advance :imu:

If you have a quality PSU then you dont have to upgrade but if you are going to update to a 6800 or X800 then you will want a 500W quality PSU or something around there. Maximum PC just benchmarked a bunch of PSU's and the Antec NeoPower 480 won so try looking for that one.

I see, ok thanks for the help. The maker of the PSU i have is : ENCER.

That Good, Ok or S**t?

lol

goss,

Sound noname to me! lol. If it runs fine now why spend money? But if you start to have reboots or lockups I would upgrade the PSU right away!

Right ok thanks. No i never have reboots or lockups! But i just don't want to have to fit my new mobo and then have to open my comp back up to get the PSU out and buy a new one! :)

goss, :p

I might go read some specs and info about my mobo and other components. Maybe it will say the recommended PSU to run it all.

Anyways thanks for the tips, and P.S ( what do you think of my new mobo and CPU?) I'm really happy I have just got them!

Can't wait to fit it all.

Athlon 64's don't need a mammoth PSU and the 9800 pro should be ok. You just have 1 harddrive and 1 CD drive so I bet you will be OK.

LMAO!

Haven't laughed that much in a long f*cking time!

Anyways, NO. Come on, what's wrong with you? I'm guessing it's a cheapo-generic. Basic analogy: like putting regular gas in a Ferrari. :upstare:

It's NOT the wattage, it's stability, amperage, and only the brand names cut it here. Antec, Vantec, Enermax, OCZ, Zalman, Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling, and Fortron, only pick from those listed. Around 400W for one of those brand name power supplies is sufficient.

Go to this website here..you can enter in all your specs and it will recommend the minimum wattage PSU you need to run them all,Just be ware that it may be best to err on the side of caution and buy a good brand PSU such as Enermax just because of future expansion needs.
