Ok so Im gonna be picking up a 360 this week and Im trying to weigh my options as far as a tv/monitor. I currently have one of the new Apple (Aluminum) 23" Cinema Displays that supports HD. My question is will I beable to hook up my cinema display to my 360 instead of having to buy an HD tv? and If I can will I lose a ton of quality since ill have to use a vga to dvi converter since the 360 doesnt take DVI connections? Ive searched all over and asked around as havnt been able to get any solid answers about this...does anyone have the slightest on this??

who told you the XBOX360 doesn't take DVI?

You can buy the XBOX360 vga cable (http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=11273&mid=327032) and add one of those VGA to DVI adapters that comes with video cards to the end of it and bobs your uncle.

AFAIK that monitor has a top resolution of 1280 x 720? which would enable you to view all the XBOX games in their highest res (none of the XBOX games are using the 1080i option afaik).

yeh but vga to dvi doesnt improve the quality at all, u would get a better quality jsut using vga in due to the reduction in conversion to dvi form factor

tho yeah, it is worth when it comes out getting the xbox to dvi cable whihc should be out later

Well I cant use just VGA because my cinema display only connects through DVI so I have to get a converter dont I?

So microsoft is for sure coming out with a DVI cable for 360?

For the xbox 360 I am getting ready to buy a 30 inch plasma screen hd tv....
If you dont have a hd tv the graphics will look awsome... If you have a HD tv the graphics will look UNCREADABLE

I won't pretend to know anything about DVI, but I do have some suggestions you may find helpful.

Did you try the xbox forums?

There is an entire forum just for the xbox360. there is an "everything you need to know" sticky pertaining to HD tv's and all that.

There are also plenty of people there they know lots about the 360. (its an xbox forum after all)

Also, there are Microsoft employees lurking the forums.

At the very worst you can get the 360 VGA cable and use the DVI adapter (mac users have been using this for a while right? or is this DVI-VGA? - the other way around?) so you can plug it in. The difference may be negligable.

Yeah thanks for the info my real problem though is my cinema display only does its native resolutions which are not the normal ones you would think. I tryed hooking up my monitor to my buddys dvr to see how HD actually looks on my monitor but we could never get anything to show up, and on several forums people have had the same problem because of the native resolution not being compatible. Someone also said that I may need to get a scaler as well so I dont know what to do ahhhhh!

I have been in similar situations before and never got the answer. It's such a specific problem becuase it is a specific monitor, so it will be hard to get the answer.

you are going to have to call or email the monitor manufacturer most likely. I would keep it as short as possible to get a quick answer, you can talk more once you catch someone.

"will an xbox 360 work on this monitor?", " if so, what kind of cable/adapter do i need?"
