Seems like mostly trivial things, the most noteworthy difference being that the PS3 HD install (alot more than the 4mb it was meant to be) gives it a bit of an advantage with load times and pop-in, but the 360 makes up with a slightly smoother top-end framerate.

Also, like anyone was wondering, the sixaxis controls are useless.

Edit - And since I'm already putting together a compendium of Kotaku links, here's their scoreless, point-for-point review -

Never knew the PS3 had motion controls, shame it sucks though, lol.

IGN said the following:

For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.

Both: Comparable framerates and textures

PS3: Better AA, less pop-in, faster load times

360: Richer colors

One important thing that gives the 360 an 'evener out' is the 50,000,000 USD DLCs that are 360 exclusive, which in my eyes makes up for the worse loading times and worse AA.

I pray they patch the 360 version with an optional install. I don't see why they couldn't have made this an option. Its not a very hard thing to do technically:
Look here on the hard-drive for stuff instead of the disk.

Oh well...

DLC that has yet to be defined. Everything so far has been just rumors and speculation.

It's technically possible. Microsoft should of never created a Core/Arcade 360. It's just...pointless.

If the 360 gets a little tweaked here and there in any updates in the future. It will most likely blow away all 360 vs. PS3 comparisons. Like, if the 360 got an internet browser, that would make my day. I've been praying for an internet browser for a long time.

True, but still. At my house, our PC's suck. Thus, the reason I bought a 360. So, for some people, an internet browser would be helpful. And anyways, even the Wii has a browser, I mean, COME ON!

Yup. The GTA devs were bitching about this aswell. Pretty ridiculous when you consider the original Xbox was the same size, and in-built...

Edit - The Wii browser sucks.

Thank god it's just some tiny graphic differences. I was worried it was going to be something important for a minute there.

Agreed with everything you said there.

I also just needed to post so I could write down my countdown.

Hmm... I'm going out for a meal tomorrow night. If I could someone pursuade my friends to sit around long enough, perhaps I could catch the midnight openings...

But... I don't have any pre-orders down, and I do have my art exam Tuesday morning. Better play it safe and go Tuesday noon.

Yeah, if nothing else you probably don't wanna be worrying about an exam with your first sit-down with the game...

I just hope there won't be a lot of texture loading/pop ins for the 360, like in Mass Effect, that hapened like 80% of always.

That's not fully true, it has been OFFICIALLY stated that each of the two Episodes will add an extra 10 hours of gameplay.:)

That's not exactly defined though. 10 hours of story missions? 10 hours of side missions? 10 hours of new city to explore? Until the exclusive DLC is 100% defined, it doesn't sway my decision much. If it's just new missions in the existing city, it doesn't really bug me much, as I can just play them at my friend's house to get the story I'm missing. If it's the addition of giant chunks of new areas to explore, then I'll be interested. Either way I'm sure GTA 4 without DLC will keep me satisfied for a while, especially with the multiplayer.

It is almost here everyone.

The dawning of a new era.

Getting it at midnight CST (even though I live in Seattle, I'm back home in Wisconsin so I get it two hours before all my friends! haha).

I also wish they would have done an optional HDD install for the 360. Would have reduced the pop-in and then the only difference would have been aliasing vs colors. Not a big deal though.

I can't wait until they reveal what the DLC is. I'm hoping it really, really justifies the 360 version. :)

I wondered about that as well. Why not just have the option to install or not on the 360? Some don't have HDDs, I understand that, but at least give the ones who do the option.

Well I'm certain it's because even more testing and QA would have to go into making sure that feature works... It's just yet another combination of options they would have to spend time and money developing and doing QA on.

I wish it would come in a patch, but I still doubt it. I suppose though it's better than having the game be delayed again. :)

I would not doubt a future patch to fix pop-in issues, honestly, Crackdown had the same issues as GTA when it launched, they fixed them with a patch.

Sweet.

I didn't really notice any issues with pop-in during my like 2-ish hour play time. Only time I saw "pop in" was with grass and that's normal in any game and nothing to be concerned about. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention or something though.

Aliasing isn't too bad either. Definitely can see it, but it's totally fine since it's not bad and you get used to it. I wouldn't worry about it.

If they are in fact working on a patch for these things, that would be so awesome. :)

Aw man, just imagine a PC version with 16x anisotropic texture filtering, 16x anti-aliasing, 1600x1200 resolution..

I am really thinking about getting a 360 from a friend though, because I really really like teh GTA games. It's like a living city.

Graphics are good, but the FPS suffers when u turn corners in cars AND quickly move the camera

Noticed some pretty bad pop-in for the first time today, which is impressive in a sense, considering I've been playing for probably 10+ hours now and doing all sorts of crap. Oddly enough it happened when I was casually driving Roman home after some pool, wasn't speeding or anything, just rounded the corner to the taxi firm (sorry, "Bellic Enterprises") and suddenly the street and buildings were all flat, textureless surfaces. Didn't last more than 5 seconds or so but it was definitely noticeable. Still haven't noticed any bad dips in the framerate, so all in all I'm very happy with the graphics on 360.

Edit - Also, the motion blur when you're speeding down a highway is ****ing sweet.

anyone playing on 360 using Componant? Apparently componant is better than VGA since its got better refresh rates or summat?... still GTA look fab just shame theres the odd noticable slow down
