Well I bought and fitted a 36Gb raptor into my machine this morning, all was well until it started to get gradually louder and louder when reading/writing data. Eventually it got so loud that it was just completely unbearable. I doubt this is normal behavior for a Raptor is it?

I'm taking it back to the store tomorrow anyway for a refund ... I think i'll get a watercooling kit instead... after all that noise I'd be very happy with some silence.

HDD's make all sorts of noises, sometimes for a bad reason sometimes just cause HDD's are weird like that.

I'd have left it on and seen what happened, no sense taking it back if its still working.

You no understand ... it got louder and louder, and eventually it was so loud I could hear it from the toilet, over the top of my music I had playing. Needless to say it was completely abnormally loud.

If that was normal, I wouldnt want to keep it anyway.

They are pretty loud, but not as you say, i think..

Well it was working fine for about half an hour ... I got XP installed onto it (in record time) and was just installing apps when I realised it was getting louder and louder, then it got a rattley noise to it and went mentally loud.

I'm sure it's not normal otherwise it wouldnt have changed volume.

i would back up any important stuff just to be on teh safe side, then do some HD tests, not sure of any, maybe someone can suggest some. Then if its ok physically and if the noise gets quieter, i would just keep it. But if the noise of it is still very noisy, get it replaced.

I know the 36gb model was quite a bit louder than the 74gb but I'm not sure just how loud...lol

The store are refusing to refund it because technically it still works (it still reads/writes data) and they're pretending they can't hear the ****ing thing.

I'm pretty pissed right now. I'm gonna have a go at the manager to get the clueless idiots sacked. Their fault for working in retail.

I'm certain that by law they have to refund you within a certain number of days, unless explicitly stated when you bought the product.
raptors are loud i know that, but i've never heard one. If it was rattling, i'd have taken it back too.

you could always sell it on ebay for its value (or only slightly less) i should think.

Well they replaced it, and the new one is fine. Took ages, they could have replaced it the day I took it back, not like a month later >:/

Hey, at least those babies have a 5year warranty.
