Before people start bitching, Futuremark has said that after 06, all versions are going to be pure DX10 and Vista only. It's time to move on for the benchmark. There is absolutely no DX9 code left, so if you don't have one of the supported Vantage GPU's then you're on your own.

With that out of the way, here's the first three "HOLY SHIT I CANT BELIEVE THEY ARE REALTIME" screenshots.

Interview (no video of of Vantage though): http://www.gametrailers.com/player/30290.html

No release date for this yet, but I'm sure it's coming very soon :)

that looks amazing.

i got vista and DX10 sounds sweet, thx for the post.

That's... amazing.
The time has come for the 8800s start to get totally humiliated by DX10.
The worse thing is that I just got one last month.

I want to see what's going to get 10000+ points in THAT!
Currently nothing, I know, but it's coming soon enough.

Whatever, the time has come to change. Come to Vista people!

And SP1 for Vista seems to be coming around mid march to make it much more stable .
Anyway I'm wondering how high can a 8800gt can get in this D:

heh thats good news :)

- theres so much detail in the space ships, it looks great.

With SP1 coming out next month (or rather, it's out right now if you want to go through shady channels), the reasons to ignore Vista are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Within 5 years, I predict that a majority of games are going to cut DX9 support and go to Vista only (though at that point Win7 will also be out)

Do you know when are the 173.xxx forceware drivers coming? I heard they are really going to improve DX10 performance. People can't ignore Vista and DX10 for much longer

yeah, at start i really didn't see any point for vista, but its not that bad once you get it.

I just went on the forums and found the first benchmark by a Futuremark employee.

1230 3DMark points - [email protected] - 8800GTX@ 690/2070

*edit* Vista bashing is so dumb. People said the same about XP, "Why go to XP when we have 2000???". It happens every time, but it's been so long (6 years) since XP came out that everyone basically forgot what it was like. Granted there were more driver issues than before, but those are about 99% figured out by now.

What the hell? I tought it would get at least 2000! At least I hoped!

Yeah, it can handle the minimum requirements. :(
I doubt it's THAT demanding. I really really do!

By the way:

# Laptop versions of these cards may work but are NOT supported. These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game.
# NOTICE: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some disc and virtual drives.

Why are the minimum requirements so high coming from a game that runs on a Xbox 360?

Because well, there is a Xbox 360 version... and I think a Playstation 3 version too.

taviow: You are getting uber-confused...

What you are seeing is 3DMark Vantage, a benchmark utility, and NOT a game (I repeat, NOT a game). This is not the game that the Futuremark guys have started work on.

This is a GPU stress testing utility that runs exclusively DX 10 code. It will NOT run if you have DX9 (which means that only Vista and DX10 GPU's are supported). PS3 or X360 do not have DX10 capable hardware, so there isn't even the chance it will come out for it, and even if it did, I don't see a single person buying it since all the hardware is the same, we would all get essentially the same score.

You're getting confused somewhere, and you also have the system specs wrong.

Minimum
Processor: x86/x64 single core CPU with SSE2 support. Performance similar to Intel Pentium D 3.2GHz or better.
Display Card: Fully D3D10/SM4.0 compliant graphics card, 256MB
Memory: 1024MB
Free Disk Space: 2GB
Operating System: Windows Vista (Server editions not supported)

Recommended
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 or equivalent AMD CPU.
Display Card: Fully D3D10/SM4.0 compliant graphics card, 512MB
Memory: 2048MB
Free Disk Space: 2GB
Operating System: Windows Vista (Server editions not supported)

*Edit* Houdini: Because it's educational for benchmarking and how well a machine runs. It's not like there's any gameplay elements that the player can interact with besides hitting "Go!" and watching the computer render from there on out :P

Even though its not a game, hot damn does it look amazing. And how it makes me long for Freespace 3 :(.

And how it makes me long for Freespace 3 :(.

Oh yes, imagine huge beautiful beam lasers ranging from green to blue to red tearing through capital ships like they were butter and dozen of fighter ships flying past the debris of a recently destroyed battleship... with that kind of graphics... oh, GOD. :x

Wait, did you just start talking about Assassin's Creed requirements out of nowhere?

And SP1 for Vista seems to be coming around mid march to make it much more stable .
Anyway I'm wondering how high can a 8800gt can get in this D:

can't wait for this.

I believe by summer 2009, over 60% of gamers are using Vista.

Yes, I know that, but I just started

talking about Assassin's Creed requirements out of nowhere?

Because I saw an image of the game somewhere and just posted the question. I even read it again and noticed I didn't even mention I was talking about Assassin's Creed! Didn't make much sense, yes. My fault, I'm sorry. :o
Those are actually Assassin's creed minimum requirements.

can't wait for this.

I believe by summer 2009, over 60% of gamers are using Vista.

And there are also the new forceware drivers coming to improve DX10 performance. 171 or 173 I don't remember.

Edit: http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/NVIDIA_Forceware_Vista_Beta_Drivers_Preview/5491-1.html
Strange results on DX9.
