Hm, I got almost the exact kind of system that you do but a little better but I only got a score of 2303. Wonder why its so low? I got a:

XP 2200+
Soyo KT400 Dragon Lite
768 DDR
ATI Radeon 9800

I dunno, my comp is close to frying itself(running at 70c) so I would expect my comp to get a LOWER score. plus my current format is in its last few weeks of life, so that should drop mine even more.

you score seems low for your system anyway, make sure you run it with the default settings and that you close any cpu hogs running in the background. a 9800 normal should have about the same score as a 9800 pro (give or take 100 or so). check your ram to, that can REALLY kill a system.

Er, what do you mean exactly by checking my RAM? I got one RAM 256 DDR PC2100 and another RAM 512 DDR PC2100.

oh yea, in the future avoid soyo. I have been VERY unhappy with my kt333 soyo lite(I got a kt333 ultra pro super-duper mega whatever at first and it didnt work at all, I tried 3 before I gave up). a freaking 70c diode with EXTRA cooling. wtf.

I mean run a bootable ram test. a few bad sectors could kill a system. just goolge it and you can find a good free one.

I go through ram cuz my system runs so damn hot, so I have experiance in this

That is far to low. You should get over 4000. Be sure all drivers are installed correctly and AA/AF is off, everything set to high performance.
My 9700 Pro gets around 4700.

Oh, I had AA and AF on when I ran it. But, I did try running it at 2x AA and 2x AF (Those are the lowest. Can you turn it completely off?) and I had high performance and I think I got around 3200 or something. It was in the 3000s.

yea, you can turn them off. swich them to "application controll"

Heh. I bet that is the problem. I'll try that now after the MemTest thing is over and tell you guys my results. Oh, one more thing. Should I just move the "Main Settings" scroll bar to optimal performance or use the custom settings and put them all on optimal performance?

let the card handle it. dont bother with specific tweaking untill you really need the bost, and your good for anything your likely to see this year at 3k.

Thanks so much you guys! I did what you said about turning on application control and put it to optimal performance and I got a 4555. Still not as good as yours, Homer, but its A LOT better then my previous one.

So is it good to keep "application preference" checked when playing games and stuff?

your probably ok to keep them on whatever setting you want for almost any game with your system. for the most part you would only need to worry about turning them off for the doom3 test, a next gen game(like hl2), or benchmarking.

Ah, alright. Thanks for your help. I got one last question though. Sorry, I don't know that much about video cards. But anyway, I got AGP on 4X so is it okay to have fast write on and is it better to have it on or off? What does it do exactly anyway?

I really havnt seen a big difference between it on and off, so I just leave it on.(I have 4x to)

Yeah. Its funny, my motherboard supports 8x but when I turn it on 8x all the games freeze up so I just keep it on 4x. I hear 8x only has like a 1% increase in performance so eh.

its probably a heat issue, but yea, 8x is only 1% difference.
