3ds --> Hl2 maps

Chances are this has been asked and answered before but is it possible to create hl2 maps in 3ds then import them to hammer (what ever)

I was told that you could only use 3ds for creating objects & animations etc... could someone who knows what they are talking about please remove the shroud of mystery :O
