I remember a few people were looking for a converter from anything to map format, but nobody knew where to find anything that could handle it, including me.

Been looking around the net this morning and seems I finally found it. Have yet to try it, only just downloaded it but thought I'd put up the URL here for those who were asking about it weeks ago. I have absolutely NO idea if it will work atall for HL2 when thats released, but if Valve say converting from HL1 is a simple job, then I imagine it will end up working.

No idea if its any good, but it seems its not too bad, with a number of features by the looks of things, no fancy stuff, just your basic maps, but anyone who uses a pro 3D app will agree that things must be much easier to build in their chosen programs than in Worldcraft.

Remember HL2 supports high amount of models as parts of map, also the map editor is easy and fun to use, so there is not really any need for full mapping support for 3D programs.

But of course that's just my opinion.

It doesn't transfer everything, just the very basic map itself, no textures I think, and little to no entity positions (but thats ok cause I prefer doing the entities in WC anyway), get to build the map in better supported software (even if it is yack Max:)) and make use of scripts and plugins to get what your wanting. Make use of stock/other files

You can, and this is the bit I'd like it for. Build up a prototype map, with all your map objects you want in it, scaled to the size you need, then export those individually, do what needs to be done to turn them into HL2 props. Convert the actual map minus those standin objects to get the basic map. Add all the now correctly sized props and stuff in WC, aswell as texturing and entity placement in WC

Granted, its not gonna be useful to everyone, but I imagine a few people will be glad of it as they'll be able to use some tools from their application that WC may not have. Things like terrains will be easier too. But again, its only really for those who have more experience in other apps. Or in this case Max.. Though there might be a version that works in gmax, this one might even work, I've no idea about that though, don't have/don't use gmax so I wouldn't know
