Okay this is really weird.
Whenever I set 4x MSAA in the SINGLE PLAYER game only, and I launch the game later, it just pops right back to the desktop, no error or anything.
If I stay in the game it works just fine.
2x MSAA works fine.
4x MSAA works fine in HL2 DM!
^ That is the really weird part.
I have reinstalled everything(drivers, hl2) about three times now. The only way to get single player to work again is to delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\hl2\Settings folder.
UGH!!!
This is bugging the crap out of me.
I even tried to copy every single setting exactly from the HL2DM area at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\hl2mp\Settings
with the settings it gives at 4x MSAA. Still just pops right back to desktop for single player.
Everything is stock.

May 17th drivers. Everything at default.
WTF!!! I know I can just force AA in the drivers, but still. WHY GOD, WHY. ;(
